Description

The Weatherby 307 Hush 7mm PRC is the HUSH Edition chambered for the modern replacement to the 7mm magnums. It runs a 22 inch fluted magnum sporter barrel with a 2 inch brake and a fast 1 in 8 twist, weighs 7.4 pounds bare, measures 41.75 inches overall and holds five rounds. The stock is hydrodipped HUSH Tundra camo with adjustable comb and length of pull, and a PEAK 44 Picatinny rail and forend ARCA adapter are fitted from the factory. The UPC is 747115457762. MAG5 Firearms lists it for elk and long range hunters.

What 7mm PRC Changes

7mm PRC was designed around the bullets people actually want to shoot now. Where the older 7mm magnums used slow twist barrels that could not stabilize the long, high ballistic coefficient 175 to 195 grain bullets, a 7mm prc hunting rifle with a 1 in 8 twist runs them properly. The result is a flatter trajectory, better wind performance and more retained energy at distance from a case that fits a standard length action.

The Weatherby 307 Hush 7mm PRC pairs that with a factory tripod setup. A PEAK 44 Picatinny rail sits on the receiver and a peak 44 arca rail adapter is fitted to the forend, so a tripod clamp, ARCA bipod or sling attachment mounts without buying anything extra. For a cartridge aimed at longer shooting, having a stable platform out of the box matters more than it would on a timber rifle.

Underneath is the Weatherby Model 307: two lugs, a fully cylindrical body, an M16 style extractor, tool-less bolt disassembly for field cleaning and Remington 700 compatibility across stocks, triggers, rails, mounts and magazines. The fluted barrel bolt action contour trims weight and adds cooling surface without sacrificing stiffness, and the metal is Graphite Black Cerakote throughout.

Honest Notes on the Cartridge

Recoil is moderate for what it delivers. 7mm PRC pushes harder than a 6.5 Creedmoor and less than a 300 Winchester Magnum, and with the brake fitted a Weatherby 307 Hush 7mm PRC is comfortable to shoot from a rest for a reasonable session. The brake is loud, as all effective brakes are, so hearing protection every time and a warning to anyone beside you. The thread is 1/2-28 if you prefer a thread protector.

Ammunition has improved quickly but it is not yet 308 Winchester. Hornady, Federal and several others load 7mm PRC, availability is good at serious retailers and thinner in small towns, and prices sit where a modern magnum sits. Pick one load, confirm it, build a drop chart and buy enough of that lot to hunt two seasons rather than switching and starting over.

Barrel life is finite on any fast 7 millimeter. Throat erosion arrives sooner than on a 7mm-08 or a 308, and fluting does not change that. Confirm zero in two or three shot groups with cooling time between them, and save volume practice for a cheaper rifle. Handled sensibly, a Weatherby 307 Hush 7mm PRC will hold a reliable cold bore zero for many seasons.

Who Should Buy It

A Weatherby 307 Hush 7mm PRC suits the hunter who shoots at distance in wind, wants elk capable terminal performance, and would rather buy a cartridge designed this decade than one designed in 1962. It is the most modern chambering in the HUSH line and arguably the most capable all round choice. Full factory specifications are published by Weatherby.

If you want easier ammunition sourcing on the road, the 7mm Remington Magnum version does very similar work with ammunition you can buy anywhere. If your shooting stays inside 300 yards on deer, the 6.5 Creedmoor version costs far less to shoot. Browse the rest of our rifles to compare.

Practical notes. Buy a scope with genuine elevation travel and repeatable turrets, because a Weatherby 307 Hush 7mm PRC is built to be dialed rather than held over. Get rings matched to the PEAK 44 rail. And set the adjustable comb to your scope height before zeroing, because a consistent cheek weld is worth more at distance than any accessory you can bolt on afterwards.
