Description

The Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Coyote Brown Red Dot is the large dot version of Trijicon’s Specialized Reflex Optic, finished in coyote brown anodize. Everything about the housing matches the other SRO models. The difference is the dot, and on a reflex sight the dot size changes how the optic behaves more than any other single number. Part SRO3-C-2500022.

What Five Minutes Of Angle Actually Covers

A five minute dot subtends about one and a quarter inches at twenty five yards and roughly five inches at a hundred. Against the 2.5 MOA version it is four times the area, which is why it appears so much bolder the moment you look through the glass.

That size buys you speed. A larger dot is found faster on the draw, is harder to lose in recoil, and demands less of your eye in poor light. The Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Coyote Brown Red Dot is the one to pick when the shooting is close, fast, and judged on time rather than on group size.

A Bigger Dot And Astigmatism

Plenty of shooters see a red dot as a smear, a comma or a starburst rather than a clean circle. That is almost always astigmatism in the shooter’s eye, not a fault in the optic, and it is far more common than most people realise.

A larger dot often reads more cleanly for those shooters, because the distortion is a smaller proportion of what they are looking at. If you have tried a small dot and found it messy, the Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Coyote Brown Red Dot is worth trying before you conclude that reflex sights are not for you.

What You Give Up

Precision at distance. A five minute dot covers five inches of a target at a hundred yards, so a partial target or a small aiming point disappears underneath it. You can still shoot accurately by centring the dot on what you can see, but you are estimating rather than seeing exactly where the shot will land.

If you shoot small steel at distance, take precise shots on partial targets, or want one optic that does everything reasonably well, the 2.5 minute version is the better buy. The Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Coyote Brown Red Dot is a deliberate choice in favour of speed.

The SRO Housing, Unchanged

The window is the reason people buy an SRO. It is a large circle with a very thin surround, so the dot floats in open space instead of sitting at the end of a tube. Combined with a five minute dot, the Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Coyote Brown Red Dot gives you about the fastest sight picture available in a miniature reflex optic.

The battery loads from the top, so changing the cell never means dismounting the sight or re-confirming zero. Adjustment is one minute per click with a hundred and fifty minutes of travel, the housing is 7075-T6 forged aluminium, and submersion is rated to ten feet.

Why Shooters Choose The Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Coyote Brown Red Dot

  • Large 5 MOA dot that is fast to find and hard to lose in recoil
  • Often reads more cleanly for shooters with astigmatism
  • Large circular SRO window with a very thin surround
  • Top loading battery, so no remount and no re-zero
  • Automatic mode plus eight manual settings including two for night vision
  • Uses the RMR mounting footprint

Who Buys The Five Minute Dot

Steel Challenge and speed shooters, where every stage is close and the clock is the only judge. Home defence pistols, where the shooting distance is measured in feet and the light is bad. Hunting handguns used on moving game at short range, where finding the dot quickly matters far more than covering an extra inch of the animal.

It also suits shooters who are new to red dots. A large dot is simply easier to locate while you are still learning to present the pistol consistently, and the Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Coyote Brown Red Dot removes a lot of the early frustration of hunting for a dot that is not where your eye expected it.

The Coyote Brown Finish

Optically and mechanically this is identical to the black version. The coyote brown anodize is there to match tan, FDE and coyote furniture, which has become the default on a lot of modern rifles and on plenty of pistols too.

If the rest of your build is black, buy the black one and save yourself the mismatch. If it is not, the Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Coyote Brown Red Dot finishes the gun properly without costing anything in performance.

Mounting And What Is Not In The Box

No mount is included. The SRO uses the RMR footprint, so a slide already cut for an RMR takes this optic directly, and RMR plates and picatinny mounts you may already own will fit. On an uncut pistol the slide must be milled or you fit a rear sight mount.

Bear in mind the SRO is taller than an RMR and its housing is deliberately thin, which is what makes the window so good and also makes it the wrong optic for daily concealed carry inside a waistband. Tell us what you are fitting the Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Coyote Brown Red Dot to and we will confirm the right hardware before it ships.

Zeroing The Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Coyote Brown Red Dot

Adjustment is one minute per click, which happens to be a fifth of the dot itself on this model. Shoot a group, measure the offset and dial. A large dot makes reading a group at distance slightly harder, so zero the Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Coyote Brown Red Dot at twenty five yards off a bag rather than freehand, and confirm with a second group before you trust it.
