Description
The Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Black Red Dot Sight pairs the largest dot Trijicon offers in the Specialized Reflex Optic with the standard matte black housing. It is the configuration to buy when finding the dot instantly matters more than covering the least amount of target. Part SRO3-C-2500003.

Big Dots And Bad Light
Low light is where a large dot earns its keep. As ambient light falls your pupil opens, your eye loses acuity, and a small aiming point becomes harder to resolve at exactly the moment you most need to see it. A five minute dot stays obvious.
That makes the Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Black Red Dot Sight a sensible choice for a home defence pistol, a truck gun, or a hunting handgun used at dawn and dusk. It is also why a lot of shooters who wear reading glasses end up preferring a large dot once they have tried both.
Run A Big Dot Dimmer Than You Think
Dot size and brightness compound. A five minute dot at a high setting blooms into something considerably larger than five minutes, smearing at the edges and washing out fine detail behind it. That is not a fault in the optic, it is how the eye responds to a bright point source.
Set the Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Black Red Dot Sight to the lowest brightness at which the dot is clearly visible against your background rather than the highest you can stand. It will look crisper, cover less, and your battery will last longer. Eight manual settings plus an automatic mode give you plenty of room to find that point.
On A Shotgun Or A Carbine
A large dot suits a shotgun particularly well. Slug guns and turkey guns are aimed rather than pointed, distances are short, and the pattern or the slug group is large enough that a five minute dot gives away nothing in practical accuracy.
The same logic applies to a pistol caliber carbine used at close range. Mounted on a receiver rail, the Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Black Red Dot Sight gives you an enormous window and a dot that is impossible to lose when the gun moves, which is exactly what a close range long gun wants.

What It Costs You
Precision past about twenty five yards. Five minutes of angle covers roughly five inches at a hundred, so a small target simply vanishes behind the dot. You can still hit it by centring carefully, but you are estimating rather than seeing where the shot will land.
If you shoot small steel at distance or take deliberate precision shots, buy the one or two and a half minute version instead. The Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Black Red Dot Sight is an unapologetically close range, fast, low light optic and it should be chosen on that basis.
Why Shooters Choose The Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Black Red Dot Sight
- 5 MOA dot that stays obvious in poor light
- Large circular SRO window with a very thin surround
- Top loading battery, so no remount and no re-zero
- Automatic mode plus eight manual settings including two for night vision
- Matte black to match almost any pistol, carbine or shotgun
- Uses the RMR mounting footprint
The SRO Window, Unchanged
Everything else about this optic matches the rest of the line. A large circular lens with a very thin surround, so the dot floats in open space rather than sitting at the end of a tube. Combined with a five minute dot it is about the fastest sight picture available in a miniature reflex.
The battery loads from the top, so changing the cell never means dismounting the Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Black Red Dot Sight or confirming zero afterwards. The housing is 7075-T6 forged aluminium and submersion is rated to ten feet.
Mounting And What Is Not In The Box
No mount is included. The SRO uses the RMR footprint, so an RMR cut slide, an RMR plate or an RMR picatinny mount will all take this optic. On an uncut pistol the slide must be milled or you fit a rear sight mount. On a shotgun you will usually need a receiver or rib mount.
Remember the SRO is taller than an RMR with a deliberately thin housing. That is what makes the window so good and also makes the Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Black Red Dot Sight the wrong optic for daily concealed carry inside a waistband. Tell us what you are fitting it to and we will confirm the hardware before it ships.
Who It Is For
Home defence shooters, Steel Challenge and speed competitors, shotgun users, pistol caliber carbine builds, and anyone whose eyes prefer a bold aiming point. It is also the friendliest choice for a shooter new to red dots, because there is far less hunting for a dot that is not where you expected.
The matte black finish matches almost everything. Trijicon offers the same optic in coyote brown if your build is tan or FDE, and that version is identical to the Trijicon SRO 5 MOA Black Red Dot Sight in every respect but colour.
