Description

Same chevron, different colour. The Trijicon ACOG 4×32 Green Chevron BAC is Trijicon TA31F-G, the 4×32 prism with a green chevron bullet drop reticle for 5.56 and .223. It is the daylight-biased twin of the red chevron model, and like every fibre and tritium ACOG it carries no battery at all.

Green Chevron: Two Choices in One Reticle

Start with the shape, because the chevron is the most misunderstood reticle Trijicon makes. It is a triangle standing on its apex. That apex is your precise aiming point, fine enough to hold on a small target at three hundred yards and comparable to a crosshair intersection for accuracy. The body widening below it is what your eye grabs at speed, which a fine crosshair cannot offer. One shape, two jobs, no compromise built into either.

Now the colour. Green reads brighter to the human eye than red does at identical output, so in full sun and across open ground the green chevron BDC reticle is easier to find and hold. The trade is night adaptation: red preserves more of your night vision between shots. If most of your shooting happens in daylight, the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 Green Chevron BAC is the better buy; if you shoot a lot at dusk or in the dark, the red version earns its keep.

Illumination is the classic Trijicon dual illuminated reticle system. A fibre optic ribbon along the top of the housing gathers ambient light and drives the reticle, so it brightens automatically as conditions brighten and never washes out or blooms. Once there is no light left to gather, a sealed tritium lamp keeps the chevron visible. No switch, no battery, nothing to check before you head out.

Trijicon ACOG 4×32 Green Chevron BAC Specifications

Holdover stadia below the chevron apex are calibrated for 55 grain .223 and 5.56 from a 20 inch barrel, running out to six hundred yards. Most buyers are on a 16 inch upper, which will not match those printed ranges exactly. Confirm them on paper with the load you actually shoot rather than trusting the numbers, which is sound advice for any bullet drop reticle and particularly worth the hour here.

Physically the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 Green Chevron BAC is the standard TA31 body: fixed 4x over a 32mm objective, 1.5 inches of eye relief, a 0.32 inch exit pupil, 36.8 feet of field of view at 100 yards across seven degrees. Forged aluminium housing in matte black, nitrogen filled and rated to 66 feet of submersion, with the TA51 flat top thumbscrew mount supplied in the box.

Honest Notes on the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 Green Chevron BAC

Handle a chevron before committing if you possibly can. Some shooters find the apex disappears against a busy or high contrast background where a horseshoe or donut would still be obvious, and reticle preference is genuinely personal rather than a question of one being objectively better. If a dot is all you have ever used, expect a session or two of adjustment.

Eye relief of 1.5 inches is short and the eye box is tight. Everybody arriving from a low power variable finds the first range trip frustrating, and it is worth saying plainly because people buy on the reputation and then assume something is wrong. Nothing is. The Trijicon ACOG 4×32 Green Chevron BAC trades forgiveness for repeatability: get the mount position right, build a consistent cheek weld, and the sight picture is identical every time.

Reticle brightness is automatic and cannot be turned down by hand. That is usually an advantage, but it works against you standing in a dark room looking out through a bright doorway, where the fibre reads the room rather than the scene and the chevron comes up fainter than you want. The battery illuminated LED ACOGs exist specifically to solve that.

Last, the fair comparison. A modern one to six or one to eight power variable gives you a true 1x and more reach for similar money, and a micro red dot weighs a third as much. Neither gives you a sealed prism with decades of service behind it, a reticle etched into the glass, and nothing at all to fail when a battery dies.
