Description
This is the AccuPoint stretched out for distance. The Trijicon AccuPoint 3-18×50 Duplex is Trijicon TR34-C-200166: a 3-18×50 on a 30mm tube, with a green duplex reticle fed by fibre optics in daylight and tritium after dark. Eighteen power and a 50mm objective put it firmly in long range territory, and it gets there without a single battery.
Battery-Free Illumination at Long Range
The illuminated aiming point on almost every precision scope runs on a coin cell, which is fine until you find it flat at first light. Trijicon feeds the Trijicon AccuPoint 3-18×50 Duplex the same way it has fed ACOGs for four decades: a fibre optic ribbon on top of the housing collects ambient light and drives the green centre of the duplex, scaling brightness automatically with conditions, and a sealed tritium lamp takes over when the light has gone. Nothing to switch on, nothing to check, nothing to replace.
On a long range scope that matters in a specific way. Dawn and dusk are when game moves and when steel gets interesting, and they are exactly when a plain black crosshair starts to disappear against a dark target. A self powered illuminated centre keeps you shooting through that window without a battery decision on your conscience.
The reticle is a plain duplex, which is a deliberate choice rather than an omission. Heavy outer posts draw the eye inward, a fine centre lets you hold precisely, and the illuminated green point sits at the intersection. There is no hash ladder to learn and nothing cluttering the view. If you dial elevation rather than holding it, a duplex is arguably the correct reticle and a Christmas tree is just visual noise.
Trijicon AccuPoint 3-18×50 Duplex Specifications
Eye relief runs 3.4 to 4 inches across the magnification range and the exit pupil falls from 0.45 inches at 3x to 0.11 inches at 18x, which is simply the physics of a 50mm objective at high power. Field of view is 34.7 feet at 100 yards wide open and 5.8 feet at full magnification. The Trijicon AccuPoint 3-18×50 Duplex weighs 27.1 ounces, which is substantial, and the housing is 6061 aircraft grade aluminium in satin black.
Adjustments are quarter MOA per click. Total travel is 60 MOA, and that number deserves attention rather than a glance. On a flat base, 60 MOA of total travel leaves you roughly 30 MOA above zero once the scope is centred, which will not reach 1,000 yards with most cartridges. A 20 MOA canted base solves it and is the normal answer at this distance, but budget for one rather than discovering the limit on the range.

Honest Notes on the Trijicon AccuPoint 3-18×50 Duplex
Second focal plane is the rule you have to work with. The reticle stays the same apparent size while the image grows, so the duplex subtensions only mean one thing at one magnification. On a duplex that matters less than it would on a hash reticle, because you are almost certainly dialling elevation rather than holding it, but if you ever do use the posts for a rough hold, do it at full magnification and nowhere else.
You cannot dim the illumination by hand. The fibre decides, and it decides sensibly nearly all the time, but there is no way to turn the green point down for a precise shot at last light or off altogether. Trijicon supplies a cover for the fibre if you want to force it dimmer. Shooters who like to dial illumination to a bare glow will find the Trijicon AccuPoint 3-18×50 Duplex frustrating in a way the specification sheet does not convey.
Sixty MOA of total travel is modest for a scope that reaches eighteen power. Plenty of competitors in this price bracket offer 80 or 100 MOA. If your shooting stops at six hundred yards it is a non issue; if you want a thousand, plan on a canted base from the outset.
Twenty seven ounces is a real weight on a mountain rifle. Paired with rings and a base you are adding well over two pounds to the gun. That is the cost of a 50mm objective and a 30mm tube, and it is the right trade for a truck gun or a steel rifle and the wrong one for something you carry up a hill all day.
