Description
The Taurus TX 9 FDE is the monotone Flat Dark Earth version of the full-size TX 9, catalogued by Taurus as 1-TX9F441-MF. Slide and frame are finished in the same earth tone, which is a harder look to get right than a two-tone gun and a good deal harder to lose in a range bag.
Underneath the colour it is the full-size pistol in the line: 17+1 rounds of 9mm Luger, a 4.50-inch barrel, an alloy steel slide cut at the factory for a micro red dot and shipped with the cover plate installed, and a polymer frame carrying a Picatinny rail and interchangeable backstraps.
MAG5 Firearms has the Taurus TX 9 FDE in stock. Handguns ship to a licensed FFL on a signed 4473, and we coordinate the paperwork with your dealer so the process is one phone call on your end.
Full size, and the reasons that matters
- Seventeen rounds plus one chambered, which is duty capacity rather than compact capacity.
- A 4.50-inch barrel gives a longer sight radius with the irons and a slower, flatter recoil impulse than the shorter guns in the family.
- More slide mass means less felt snap, which shows up as faster follow-up shots once you have put a few hundred rounds through it.
- A full-length grip means all three fingers are on the gun, with no pinky hanging off the bottom of the magazine.
- The Taurus TX 9 FDE weighs enough to soak up recoil without being tiring to shoot for an afternoon.

Finish, fit and the optic cut
- Flat Dark Earth on both slide and frame, so scuffs on the polymer do not show against a contrasting colour.
- The optic cut is factory milled, not aftermarket, and arrives with a cover plate in place.
- Serrated slide top reduces glare under a red dot; fixed iron sights stay as a backup.
- Interchangeable backstraps size the grip to the shooter, which matters on a frame this long.
- A full-length Picatinny rail ahead of the trigger guard takes a duty-size weapon light, not just a compact one.

Ammunition selection is simple. All 9mm Luger from a reputable maker is loaded to the chamber and pressure standard published by SAAMI, so practice ball and defensive hollow points will both headspace and cycle correctly in this barrel. We keep CCI Blazer Brass 9mm on the shelf for volume practice and Buffalo Bore 9mm +P for defensive use.
The same full-size pistol is available in black, and the TX 9 Compact trades two rounds and half an inch of barrel for easier concealment. Our wider range of semi-automatic handguns is worth comparing before you commit.
Why this FDE full size earns its place
- The Taurus TX 9 FDE puts a factory optic cut, 17+1 capacity and a 4.5-inch barrel on one pistol at a price most competitors reserve for a stripped model.
- Monotone Flat Dark Earth is moulded and finished through, so wear shows far less than it does on black.
- Interchangeable backstraps let one pistol fit two shooters in a household.
- Magazines, holsters and light mounts for the full-size TX 9 are standard catalogue items.
- Taurus backs it with a limited lifetime repair policy that follows the firearm rather than the original buyer.
The Taurus TX 9 FDE is a natural first centerfire pistol and an easy one to keep. The full-size frame is forgiving to learn on, the capacity covers a home-defense role without a magazine change, and the optic cut means a red dot can be added later without sending the slide anywhere. Shooters who already own a black duty pistol often pick this one simply so the two are never confused.
Ordering is straightforward. Pick the pistol, tell us the FFL that should receive it, and we handle the dealer side. If you do not have a transfer dealer, call us and we will help you find one close to you.
