Description
The Taurus TX 9 Compact is the middle size in the TX 9 family, and for a lot of shooters it is the one that makes the other two unnecessary. Taurus part number 1-TX9C441 holds 15+1 rounds of 9mm Luger behind a 4-inch barrel, which is most of the full-size pistol’s capacity and sight radius in a package that still disappears under a jacket.
The slide is black nitride alloy steel, cut at the factory for a micro red dot and shipped with the cover plate in place. Front and rear serrations run the length of it, the top is serrated to cut glare, and fixed iron sights stay in place as a backup. The frame is black polymer with a Picatinny rail and interchangeable backstraps.
MAG5 Firearms has the Taurus TX 9 Compact in stock. Handguns transfer through a licensed FFL on a signed 4473, and we coordinate the dealer paperwork from our end.
Why the compact size is the sweet spot
- Fifteen rounds plus one chambered, which is only two short of the full-size TX 9 and several ahead of most pistols with a 4-inch barrel.
- A 4-inch barrel is long enough to keep velocity and a workable sight radius, short enough that the muzzle does not print when you bend over.
- The grip is cut to stop just short of a full-size frame, which is where most concealment problems actually start.
- Interchangeable backstraps let the Taurus TX 9 Compact be fitted to the hand rather than the other way round.
- Weight sits in the middle of the range, so recoil stays manageable without turning the pistol into a brick on the belt.

Optic cut, finish and controls
- The optic cut is milled at the factory on Taurus tooling, not added afterwards, so there is no gunsmith bill and no weeks of downtime.
- A cover plate ships installed, which means the Taurus TX 9 Compact is complete and sealed whether or not a dot ever goes on it.
- Black nitride on alloy steel resists holster wear and perspiration better than a conventional blued finish.
- Full-length Picatinny rail under the dust cover takes a duty-size weapon light, not just a subcompact one.
- Aggressive frame texturing holds the pistol in place under recoil without chewing through a cover garment.

Ammunition is straightforward. Every 9mm Luger load from a reputable maker is built to the chamber and pressure standard published by SAAMI, so range ball and defensive hollow points both headspace and cycle correctly in this barrel. We stock CCI Blazer Brass 9mm for practice volume and Buffalo Bore 9mm +P for carry.
Want the longer barrel and two more rounds? That is the Taurus TX 9 Full Size TORO. Need something smaller still? Look at the TX 9 Sub-Compact TORO. The rest of our semi-automatic handguns are worth comparing first.
Why the TX 9 Compact earns its place
- The Taurus TX 9 Compact gives up almost nothing in capacity to a full-size pistol while remaining genuinely concealable.
- A factory optic cut at a price point where most makers still charge extra for the milling.
- Interchangeable backstraps mean one pistol can serve two shooters with different hand sizes.
- Magazines, holsters and light mounts for the TX 9 line are catalogue items rather than special orders.
- Taurus backs the pistol with a limited lifetime repair policy that follows the firearm, not the first owner.
This is the pistol for someone who is tired of owning a range gun and a carry gun. The Taurus TX 9 Compact shoots close enough to a full-size frame to be pleasant over a long practice session, and carries closely enough to a subcompact to live on the belt every day. Add a red dot and it works equally well on the nightstand.
Ordering is simple. Choose the pistol, tell us which FFL should receive it, and we will handle the dealer coordination. If you have not lined up a transfer dealer, call us and we will find one near you.
