Description

The Raging Hunter 44 Black is the mid-length .44 Magnum in a single uniform finish: matte black oxide on the frame, cylinder and barrel shroud, with the red cushioned insert in the grip for contrast. Six rounds, a 6.75-inch ported barrel and a full-length Picatinny rail.

The Raging Hunter 44 Black uses the barrel length most .44 hunters settle on. Enough to get real velocity out of a heavy load, short enough to carry in a chest rig through thick country.

What the Raging Hunter 44 Black offers

  • The Raging Hunter 44 Black holds six rounds, with .44 Special chambering in the same cylinder for cheaper practice
  • 6.75-inch barrel, the middle of three lengths and the one that balances velocity against portability
  • Dual-stage gas expansion ports machined into the top of the shroud
  • Full-length Picatinny rail integral to the shroud, so a red dot or pistol scope mounts without an adapter
  • Matte black oxide throughout, with nothing bright to catch light in the field
  • Black rubber grip with the red cushioned insert, which is the most important recoil feature on the gun
  • Adjustable rear sight and an exposed hammer for deliberate single-action shots

Why .44 Magnum is still the sensible big bore

  • The Raging Hunter 44 Black will take any animal in North America at handgun range, which is more than most people ever need
  • Ammunition is far cheaper and far more widely stocked than .454, .460 or .500
  • Recoil out of a gun this heavy is firm rather than brutal, so the Raging Hunter 44 Black can be practised with properly
  • .44 Special drops straight in for a pleasant afternoon at a fraction of the cost
  • Brush the chambers after a session of Specials or the longer Magnum cases will eventually stop seating
  • It is still a large-frame revolver and it is heavy on a belt. A chest rig is the right answer

.44 Remington Magnum and .44 Special are both standardised cartridges with dimensions and pressure ceilings published by SAAMI. The Magnum case is longer, which is why the Special chambers here and the Magnum will not fit a .44 Special revolver.

One practical point on bullet choice. For hunting, a heavy hard-cast bullet will out-penetrate a hollow point by a wide margin, and penetration is what matters on animals with heavy bone. For range work, a 240-grain jacketed load is cheaper and easier on the hands. Most people who own a Raging Hunter 44 Black end up with one box of each and a clear idea of which is which.

Why this revolver earns its place

  • Six shots of .44 Magnum with a factory optics rail
  • The barrel length that balances hunting velocity against something you will actually carry
  • The Raging Hunter 44 Black is heavy enough to make full-power loads genuinely manageable
  • .44 Special for affordable practice out of the same cylinder
  • A uniform matte black finish with nothing to flash at an animal
  • Ammunition that is cheap and stocked everywhere, unlike the bigger bores

Handgun hunters, hikers and guides in bear country, and anyone who wants a big-bore revolver they will shoot often rather than occasionally. The Raging Hunter 44 Black is the most practical gun in the Raging Hunter range after the .357.

For the same barrel length in two-tone, the 6.75-inch .44 two-tone is the alternative finish. For something shorter, the 5-inch .44 and the 5-inch two-tone carry far more easily.

For more barrel, the 8.37-inch and the 8.37-inch camo are the scoped options. Stepping up in power, the .454 Casull is a considerable jump in both recoil and ammunition cost.

Every Raging Hunter we ship comes with the factory case, the manual and a lock. Transfers go to your FFL and our end of the paperwork is done the same day.
