Description

The Raging Hunter 44 Camo is the long-barrel .44 Magnum in multi-terrain camouflage Cerakote, with a matte black cylinder and a black rubber grip. The Raging Hunter 44 Camo holds six rounds, with an 8.37-inch ported barrel, and a full-length Picatinny rail machined into the top of the shroud.

.44 Magnum out of eight and a third inches is a very different proposition from the same cartridge in a four-inch gun. It is a scoped hunting handgun, and the finish is chosen for the same reason the barrel is long.

What the long camo build gives you

  • The Raging Hunter 44 Camo has an 8.37-inch barrel, which gets far more out of a .44 Magnum load than a carry-length revolver does
  • Six rounds of .44 Remington Magnum, with .44 Special chambering in the same cylinder for cheaper practice
  • Camouflage Cerakote over the frame and barrel shroud, with a matte black cylinder
  • Dual-stage gas expansion ports machined into the top of the shroud
  • Full-length Picatinny rail, with room to position a scope where your eye actually sits
  • Black rubber grip with the cushioned insert, which on a Raging Hunter 44 Camo is doing real work
  • Adjustable rear sight and an exposed hammer for deliberate single-action shots

What the barrel length and the finish are actually for

  • Velocity. A heavy .44 hunting load needs barrel to reach its potential, and this is the length that gives it
  • Weight. The Raging Hunter 44 Camo is heavy, and that weight is what makes full-power loads pleasant rather than punishing
  • A camouflage finish is a working feature on a gun held still in the open while an animal makes up its mind
  • Cerakote also handles rain, sweat and brush contact better than a blued finish does
  • The cost is portability. This needs a chest holster or a scabbard, and it catches on brush
  • Ports are loud outdoors and worse under a roof. Doubled hearing protection, and give your neighbour room

.44 Remington Magnum and .44 Special are both standardised cartridges with dimensions and pressure ceilings published by SAAMI. The Magnum case is longer, which is why the Special chambers here and the Magnum will not fit a .44 Special revolver, and why the chambers want a brush after a session of Specials.

One thing worth planning for. A scoped 8.37-inch revolver is an awkward shape to carry and there is no good improvised solution. Buy the chest rig at the same time as the gun. A Raging Hunter 44 Camo that lives in a range bag because there was nothing to carry it in has cost you the whole point of a hunting handgun.

Why this revolver earns its place

  • The barrel length that lets a .44 Magnum hunting load do what it was designed to do
  • A factory optics rail, which matters more on a hunting handgun than any other feature
  • Enough weight that the Raging Hunter 44 Camo is comfortable with full-power loads
  • A camouflage finish that works in the field rather than just looking the part
  • .44 Special for affordable practice out of the same cylinder
  • Six shots of a cartridge with a fifty-year record on North American game

Handgun hunters, guides and anyone who wants to take deer, hog or black bear with a revolver rather than a rifle. The Raging Hunter 44 Camo is a purpose-built tool and nobody should buy it as a general-purpose handgun.

For a shorter barrel in the same cartridge, the 6.75-inch .44 and the 5-inch are far easier to carry, and the 8.37-inch two-tone is this gun in a conventional finish.

For the same barrel length in camouflage with less recoil, the seven-shot .357 Magnum camo is the sibling SKU. Stepping up, the .454 Casull is a considerable jump in both power and price to feed.

Every Raging Hunter we ship comes with the factory case, the manual and a lock. Transfers go to your FFL and our end of the paperwork is done the same day.
