Description

The Taurus Raging Hunter 350 Legend is a six-shot revolver chambered for a rifle cartridge, with a 10.5-inch stainless barrel, a muzzle brake, a fibre-optic front sight carried out at the muzzle, and Picatinny rail above and below the black barrel shroud. The frame is matte stainless, the cylinder matte black oxide.

It is an unusual gun and worth understanding before you buy. The .350 Legend is a rimless straight-wall cartridge designed for rifle use in states that restrict bottlenecked centre-fire rounds for deer. Because it is rimless, the Taurus Raging Hunter 350 Legend loads and extracts on moon clips rather than by rim — the clips are part of the gun, not an accessory.

How it is set up

  • A 10.5-inch stainless barrel that protrudes well past the shroud, ending in a substantial muzzle brake.
  • The fibre-optic front sight is mounted at the brake rather than at the shroud, giving the Taurus Raging Hunter 350 Legend an unusually long sight radius for a handgun.
  • Picatinny rail along the top of the shroud for an optic, and a second section underneath for a bipod or a light.
  • The Taurus Raging Hunter 350 Legend holds six rounds on a moon clip. Buy spares — clips are what you reload with, and a bent one will tie the gun up.
  • An adjustable rear sight, a transfer bar safety, an exposed hammer and a soft rubber grip.

Honest notes before you buy

  • A muzzle brake is not porting. It is louder, and it directs blast back and to the sides — shooting one from inside a blind or off a bench next to someone is genuinely unpleasant for everyone nearby.
  • You will not get rifle velocity from a handgun barrel, even a long one. Factory .350 Legend figures are quoted from 16 to 20 inches of barrel. Expect meaningfully less here and pick a bullet that still expands at the lower speed.
  • Moon clips are the ammunition management system. Load them at home, carry them loaded, and keep a few spares in a hard case rather than loose in a pocket.
  • The Taurus Raging Hunter 350 Legend is long. At 10.5 inches plus a brake this is a chest-rig or scabbard gun, and it wants a rest.
  • Check your own state’s regulations before hunting with it. Straight-wall rules vary, and a handgun is not always covered by the same provision as a rifle.

.350 Legend is a SAAMI-standardised cartridge — the dimensions and pressure ceiling are published by SAAMI, which is why it was adopted so quickly by states with straight-wall requirements. Loads run from 125 grain lead-free up to 250 grain subsonic, and the lighter, faster ones are designed around rifle velocities; for handgun use, a heavier bullet built to open slowly is usually the better choice.

Other Raging Hunters in stock: the .500 S&W with a ten-inch barrel, the .44 Magnum at 5.12 inches, and the 5.12-inch .500 S&W. For a conventional rimmed hunting cartridge with no clips to manage, the .44 is the simpler gun.

Why the Taurus Raging Hunter 350 Legend earns its place

  • The Taurus Raging Hunter 350 Legend puts a straight-wall deer cartridge in a handgun, for hunters whose seasons are written around exactly that.
  • Six rounds instead of the five most big-bore hunting revolvers offer.
  • A long sight radius and a rail, so it works with irons or an optic.
  • Far milder recoil than a .44 or .500 Magnum, with a muzzle brake on top of that.
  • Ammunition that is cheap and widely stocked, because rifle shooters buy it by the case.

This suits a hunter in a straight-wall state who wants to take deer with a handgun, and anyone who likes the idea of a rifle cartridge in a revolver and is prepared to work with moon clips. It is a stand and blind gun rather than a walking gun, and it rewards a scope. The Taurus Raging Hunter 350 Legend is not a defensive revolver, not a plinker, and not the right first big-bore — the clip system alone makes it a gun for someone who already knows what they are doing.
