Taurus GX4 TORO Viridian 9mm Micro-Compact 13+1 with Green Dot – Superb Optic-Ready Carry Package

Description

The GX4 TORO Viridian is the optic-cut micro-compact with the optic already fitted: a Viridian RFX-11 green dot comes mounted on the slide, sighted and ready. That removes the two things that usually stall an optic-ready purchase, which are choosing the right plate and paying separately for the sight.

The GX4 TORO Viridian holds thirteen rounds of 9mm, with a 3-inch satin black DLC barrel and a black gas nitride slide, on a frame about an inch wide.

What comes in the box

• The GX4 TORO Viridian comes with the RFX-11 green dot already mounted on the optic-cut slide
• 13+1 capacity in 9mm Luger from the extended magazine
• 3-inch satin black DLC barrel under a black gas nitride alloy steel slide
• Textured polymer grip on the micro-compact frame
• Front and rear slide serrations, cut deep enough to work with cold hands
• The GX4 TORO Viridian is a complete carry setup rather than a starting point
• Standard GX4 magazines and holsters fit, though a holster must be cut for the optic

Living with a dot on a carry gun

• The GX4 TORO Viridian green dot is easier for most eyes to pick up in daylight than a red one, which is the practical argument for this sight
• The dot has to be found on the draw, and that takes practice. A thousand dry repetitions is not excessive
• Batteries die. Check and replace on a schedule, and write the date somewhere you will see it
• The GX4 TORO Viridian keeps its iron sights, so there is a backup if the dot fails
• A holster cut for a bare GX4 will not clear the optic. Buy one made for an optic-equipped gun
• No accessory rail on the micro frame, which is the trade for the profile

9mm Luger is the most heavily produced and most tightly standardised handgun cartridge in the world, with chamber and pressure specifications published by SAAMI. As with any carry pistol, run a box of your chosen defensive load through this one before you rely on it.

One correction to the distributor data. Sports South lists the frame on this SKU as stainless steel. It is not: the GX4 TORO Viridian has a polymer frame with a steel chassis inside it, which is how a pistol this size weighs what it does. The same error runs through most of the Taurus polymer line, so it is worth knowing when you compare spec sheets across retailers.

Why this pistol earns its place

• A red dot fitted and ready, with no plate to research and no sight to buy separately
• Thirteen rounds of 9mm in a pistol about an inch wide
• A green dot, which most eyes find easier to acquire in bright daylight
• The GX4 TORO Viridian still has iron sights as a backup
• Light enough to be carried every day, which is the only thing that matters in a carry gun
• Cheaper as a package than buying the pistol and the optic separately

Anyone who wants a dot on their carry gun without the project that usually comes with it, and shooters upgrading from irons who would rather not gamble on mounting hardware. The GX4 TORO Viridian is a complete setup out of the box.

If you already own an optic, the TORO Micro in ten-round trim and the GX4 Carry TORO are optic-cut without a sight fitted.

If you would rather have irons only, the GX4 Micro is the plainest of the family and the GX4 XL adds barrel and grip without adding width. For a chassis build, the GX4 TORO Strike Industries is the range and home option.

Every Taurus GX4 ships with the factory case, the magazine, the manual and a lock. Transfers go to your FFL and our end of the paperwork is done the same day.
