Stevens 555 E 16 Gauge Overview
The 555 E is the dressed-up member of the Stevens 555 family. It keeps the lightweight aluminum receiver scaled to gauge, with a steel breech insert for strength, and then adds the upgrades most shooters look for in a nicer over/under: selective automatic ejectors, laser-engraved filigree on the receiver, and upgraded walnut furniture. It is a shotgun built to be carried and shot often, with enough polish that you will be glad to bring it out at the club or in the field.

Action and Barrel
Both barrels are chrome-lined carbon steel and are fired through a single selective mechanical trigger, which resets mechanically instead of relying on recoil, so light target loads still trip the second barrel. Selective automatic ejectors kick out fired hulls while leaving unfired shells in place, which speeds up reloading on doubles. The tang safety also serves as the barrel selector. This model carries 28-inch barrels threaded for the included choke tubes.
Stock and Fit
The Stevens 555 E 16 Gauge wears a Turkish Walnut stock and fore-end. Length of pull is 14.57 inches. A recoil pad at the butt softens felt recoil and keeps the stock from slipping on your shoulder. Overall length is about 45.28 inches and the gun weighs about 6.45 lbs, light enough to carry all day.
Sights and Chokes
A front bead on the ventilated rib keeps the sight picture clean and fast. Five choke tubes are included: Full, Improved Modified, Modified, Improved Cylinder, and Cylinder, which cover everything from close upland flushes to longer clay presentations.

Care and Cleaning
Cleaning is simple. After each outing, run a bore brush and patches through the barrel and wipe down the choke tube threads, wipe the metal with a light coat of gun oil, and check that the action is free of dirt and debris. Remove and clean the choke tubes regularly, and put a little choke tube lube on the threads so they do not seize. Wipe the walnut with a soft cloth to keep moisture off the finish.
