Stars and Stripes 12ga 00 Buckshot 9 Pellet – Proven 250 Round Case

Description

Stars and Stripes 12ga 00 Buckshot is the load most people picture when they think of a fighting shotgun: nine pellets of 00 buck, 2 3/4 inch hull, 1200 fps, no gimmicks. This listing is the case, twenty five boxes of ten for two hundred and fifty rounds. It is loaded in Italy by Cheddite, a shotshell maker that has been in business since 1901.

Why Nine Pellet 00 Buck Endures

Nine pellets of 00 buck is the American standard for a reason. Each 00 pellet is .33 inches across and weighs about 54 grains, so a single trigger pull sends roughly 490 grains of lead downrange at 1200 fps. Inside typical home defense distances that is decisive, and the payload is spread across nine projectiles rather than concentrated in one, which is what gives buckshot its reputation.

Full power 1200 fps loads like this recoil more than the reduced recoil buckshot that has become popular, and they generally pattern a little wider. Whether that matters depends on your gun and your distances. A cylinder bore 18 inch barrel will typically hold this 9 pellet 00 buck load inside a spread of roughly one inch per yard, which means a fist sized group at seven yards and something closer to dinner plate size at fifteen.

The practical argument for a case rather than a box is simple. Nobody should choose a defensive load without patterning it and without running enough of it to confirm the gun cycles it, and a defensive shotgun deserves more than ten rounds of familiarity. Buying 250 rounds lets you actually train with the ammunition you keep loaded rather than guessing.

Honest Notes on Buckshot

Pattern it in your own gun. This is the single most important thing anyone can do with buckshot and almost nobody does it. Shoot Stars and Stripes 12ga 00 Buckshot at a silhouette target at five, ten and fifteen yards and see where the pellets actually land. Barrel length, choke and even the specific shell brand change the spread dramatically, and you are responsible for every pellet.

Overpenetration is a real concern indoors. A 00 buck pellet will pass through interior drywall and keep going, and nine of them do so at once. That is true of every defensive load worth having, but it means thinking about what is behind your target and, ideally, about where family members sleep relative to your likely firing positions.

Full power loads are harder to shoot fast. Reduced recoil buckshot exists because it lets most shooters get back on target quicker, and for many people that matters more than the small ballistic difference. If you are recoil sensitive or shooting a light gun, try both before deciding which one lives in your shotgun.

Finally, cycle test it if your shotgun is semi automatic. Full power loads generally run any gas gun without complaint, which is a point in their favour, but magazines, extensions and aftermarket springs all introduce variables. Twenty five rounds through the gun as configured tells you more than any specification sheet.

For a single projectile option we stock the Stars and Stripes rifled slug, and the Akkar 512 High Noon defense shotgun is a sensible host. The manufacturer publishes its background on the Stripes and Stars Shells website.

Stars and Stripes 12ga 00 Buckshot suits home defense shotguns, duty guns and anyone who wants enough ammunition to pattern and train rather than just load and hope. MAG5 Firearms is a family owned FFL in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. Cases ship where state and local law allows.
