Description

The Springfield Waypoint 6.5 PRC Evergreen is a long range hunting rifle that gets two things right most factory rifles do not: it weighs 7 pounds 10 ounces with a 24 inch barrel, and the stock adjusts so the rifle fits you rather than the average of everyone.
An Adjustable Stock Is Not A Gimmick
Comb height and length of pull are the two dimensions that determine whether you can get behind a scope consistently. On a fixed stock built for an average build, a tall shooter floats his cheek and a short one cranes his neck, and both end up with an inconsistent head position that shows up as vertical stringing at distance. The adjustable carbon fiber stock removes that variable.
It matters more the further out you shoot, and 6.5 PRC is a cartridge people buy specifically to shoot far. Comb height also becomes critical when you change optics, since a larger objective sits the scope higher and a comb that was correct for one setup will be wrong for the next. Being able to dial it in takes ten seconds instead of a stock pack or a gunsmith.
The stock itself is a hybrid profile carbon fiber shell with M-LOK slots along the forend and QD cups for a sling. Carbon keeps the weight down without the flex of a hollow synthetic, and the Evergreen camo pattern is a green dominant scheme that suits timber and dark brush better than the tan and grey patterns most rifles wear.
Barrel, Action And Trigger
The 24 inch carbon fiber barrel is a thin steel liner wrapped in resin impregnated carbon filament. The steel does the shooting and the carbon does the stiffening, so you get the rigidity of a heavy contour at close to sporter weight. It also sheds heat faster than a solid steel tube of the same profile, which keeps a three or four shot string closer together than a light steel barrel would.
A 1:8 twist is the right choice for 6.5 PRC, since the cartridge is usually loaded with long, heavy for caliber bullets in the 140 to 156 grain range and those need a fast twist to stabilize. Twenty four inches also gives the case enough barrel to reach its advertised velocity, which matters because 6.5 PRC exists specifically to push 6.5 bullets faster than a Creedmoor can.
Underneath sits the Model 2020 stainless action with a fluted 4140 tool steel bolt, nitrided, running in EDM cut raceways. EDM machining leaves the raceways straighter and smoother than broaching, which is why the bolt throws the way it does. A TriggerTech adjustable trigger handles the break from roughly 2.5 to 5 pounds, using a free floating roller between sear and trigger instead of sliding surfaces, so the pull is glassy with no creep. The receiver carries an integral Picatinny rail on the Remington 700 short action pattern.

Why Buyers Choose The Springfield Waypoint 6.5 PRC Evergreen
The combination of a carbon barrel and a carbon stock is what gets a 24 inch magnum length rifle to 7 pounds 10 ounces. A comparable steel barreled rifle with a synthetic stock typically runs a pound and a half heavier before optics, and that difference is what you feel on the fourth mile of a climb.
6.5 PRC is a genuinely good long range hunting cartridge. It pushes heavy, high ballistic coefficient 6.5 bullets several hundred feet per second faster than a Creedmoor, which flattens trajectory and holds energy further out, while recoiling far less than a .300 magnum. For elk sized game at distance it is a sensible middle ground.
The parts are not house brand substitutes. A TriggerTech unit, a carbon wrapped barrel and an adjustable carbon stock are what a custom builder would specify, and sourcing them individually plus labor would cost considerably more than this rifle does complete.
The honest tradeoffs: 6.5 PRC burns a lot of powder for its bore and barrel life is shorter than a Creedmoor, typically measured in the low thousands of rounds for a competitive shooter rather than the high thousands. The SA Radial Brake is effective and loud enough that hearing protection is not optional, and it will make you unpopular at a covered firing line. Ammunition is more expensive and less widely stocked than 6.5 Creedmoor.
Who Should Buy The Springfield Waypoint 6.5 PRC Evergreen
This is built for the hunter who walks a long way and expects a long shot at the end of it. Open country mule deer, elk in steep terrain, and anyone flying with a rifle where weight matters will get real value from it. Long range target shooters who want a light rifle they can also carry will like it too, though a heavier gun is steadier off a bench. Recoil sensitive shooters and high volume practice shooters should look at 6.5 Creedmoor instead, since ammunition costs less, barrels last longer and the ballistic difference only matters past several hundred yards.
