Description
The Springfield 2020 Boundary 7mm Rem Mag is the cartridge most experienced western hunters end up at. It shoots flatter than a 300 magnum for less recoil, it carries high ballistic coefficient bullets that hold up in wind, and in this rifle it comes in a package that weighs seven pounds two ounces and carries all day. Springfield built the Model 2020 Boundary rifle around a custom grade action and then took weight out everywhere that would not cost accuracy.
Why The Springfield 2020 Boundary 7mm Rem Mag Suits Open Country
The barrel is 24 inches of 416 stainless with fluting along its length, spun with a 1:8 twist. That twist is faster than the 1:9 many older 7mm rifles used, and it exists to stabilise the long heavy for calibre bullets that make the cartridge worth shooting at distance. Pair the Springfield 2020 Boundary 7mm Rem Mag with 175 grain match or hunting bullets and the twist rate is doing real work.
Underneath, the Model 2020 action is custom grade stainless with dual locking lugs on a fluted bolt running through EDM cut raceways. Springfield guarantees three quarter MOA with quality factory ammunition, and it is the action rather than the barrel that makes that promise possible.
The AG Sportsman carbon fiber stock is where the rest of the weight went missing. It has M-Lok slots and quick disconnect cups moulded in, so a sling and a bipod attach without adapters, and the whole rifle wears Tactical Grey Cerakote H-227 against weather.
Handling The Springfield 2020 Boundary 7mm Rem Mag
Recoil on a seven pound 7mm magnum is real but noticeably softer than the 300 Win Mag version of the same rifle, and the SA Radial Brake takes more out of it again. Most people find the Springfield 2020 Boundary 7mm Rem Mag comfortable enough to sight in properly and confirm a cold bore shot without flinching, which is more than can be said for a lot of light magnums.
The TriggerTech adjustable trigger runs 2.5 to 5 pounds and uses a free floating roller between sear and trigger, so the break stays identical whether you are on a bench in July or gloved up in a snow squall. Length of pull is 13.5 inches and the Pachmayr Decelerator pad handles the rest.
A three round internal detachable magazine with a hinged floor plate feeds the rifle, and optics go on a Picatinny rail with standard 6-48 screws. At 46 inches overall the Springfield 2020 Boundary 7mm Rem Mag is a full length rifle, so a scabbard or a case is worth planning for.

Why Buyers Choose The Springfield 2020 Boundary 7mm Rem Mag
The 7mm Remington Magnum has been around since 1962 and it has outlasted a long list of cartridges that were supposed to replace it. The reason is balance. It gives up very little to a 300 magnum on energy at range while producing noticeably less recoil, and factory ammunition is available in every gun shop in the country, which is not true of the newer 7mm offerings.
Springfield fitted the fluted stainless steel barrel and the carbon stock to solve the usual problem with magnum hunting rifles, which is that they are heavy enough to be unpleasant to carry and light enough to be unpleasant to shoot. At seven pounds two ounces with a brake fitted, the Springfield 2020 Boundary 7mm Rem Mag lands closer to the right side of that line than most.
The honest caveats apply here too. The radial brake is effective and loud, and anyone shooting beside you will notice. Barrel life on a 7mm magnum is shorter than a standard cartridge, and three rounds in the magazine is a limitation if you want follow up shots. Ammunition also costs more than a 308, so practising properly is an expense worth budgeting for.
One more practical note. The 1:8 twist on the Springfield 2020 Boundary 7mm Rem Mag favours heavier bullets, so very light varmint weight loads may not shoot to their best in this barrel. Start with 160 to 175 grain offerings.
Who Should Buy The Springfield 2020 Boundary 7mm Rem Mag
The Springfield 2020 Boundary 7mm Rem Mag suits the hunter who walks open country for elk, mule deer or sheep and wants reach without the recoil of a 300 magnum. If your shots are inside 250 yards, a 308 or 6.5 Creedmoor will do the job more cheaply and with less noise. If you want the absolute most energy at distance, the 300 Win Mag version of the same rifle is the one to look at. For most western hunting, this is the sensible middle.
