Smith Wesson SW1911TA E-Series 45 ACP 5 Overview

Smith and Wesson’s E-Series brings classic 1911 styling together with modern features. The slides wear the distinctive fish scale serrations front and rear that give the E-Series its look and make press checks and slide manipulation easy. The SW1911TA is a full-size Government length 1911 with a stainless steel frame and slide. An integral Picatinny accessory rail on the dust cover lets you mount a weapon light or laser, which makes it a strong choice for home defense. 45 ACP.

Tritium night sights give a clear aiming point in low light, and the wood laminate E-Series grips complete the classic look. The full-length guide rod and match-grade barrel help deliver the accuracy 1911 shooters expect.

The E-Series Look

The fish scale serrations, wood laminate grips and crisp lines make the E-Series one of the most recognizable 1911 lines on the market. It is a pistol that looks as good on display as it performs at the range.

Why 45 ACP

The .45 ACP has been paired with the 1911 for more than a century. Its heavy, slow bullet delivers a big impact with recoil that a steel or alloy 1911 handles comfortably. Choose quality jacketed hollow points for defense and 230 grain FMJ for practice.

Carry and Care

Carry a 1911 cocked and locked in a quality holster that covers the trigger guard, and practice disengaging the thumb safety as part of your draw. Keep the slide rails lightly oiled and clean the pistol after each range session for reliable function.

Practice and Training

Regular practice builds confidence and safe handling. Start at close range, focus on sight alignment and a smooth trigger press, and work back as your groups tighten. Dry fire with snap caps at home to improve your trigger control between range trips.

Choosing Ammunition

Try several brands and bullet weights to see what feeds reliably and groups best in your handgun. Use quality full metal jacket loads for practice and proven hollow points for defense, and confirm reliable function with your defensive load before carrying it.

Care and Maintenance

Clean the barrel, slide or cylinder and frame after shooting, apply a light coat of quality lubricant to moving parts, and store the handgun unloaded in a locked case or safe away from children.

Safe Storage

Store handguns unloaded in a locked safe, lockbox or with a cable lock, and keep ammunition separate when children are in the home. Quick access safes keep a defensive handgun secure but available. Teach everyone in the household basic firearm safety rules.

Recommended Accessories

A quality holster, spare magazines, eye and ear protection and a cleaning kit round out any handgun purchase. For defensive use, add a weapon light and practice drawing safely from your holster with an unloaded gun before carrying.
