Description

The Alpha Foxtrot Romulus 45 ACP answers the question the double stack 1911 was invented to answer: why should a 45 hold eight rounds? This one holds thirteen, on a 4.25 inch bull ramped barrel with a SUS416 stainless frame and slide in matte DLC, an MOS cut slide and ambidextrous controls. Part number AA39X4CID-XDBK13, UPC 810100537913.

Thirteen rounds of 45

A traditional single stack 1911 in 45 ACP carries seven or eight rounds, where an AF1911 Romulus 45 double stack carries thirteen. A 13+1 45 ACP 2011 pistol carries nearly twice that in a gun of similar length, and that arithmetic is the entire reason this platform exists. You keep the single action trigger, the grip angle and the manual of arms that make a 1911 shoot the way it does, and you stop counting quite so carefully.

The recoil character of the Alpha Foxtrot Romulus 45 ACP is worth describing accurately because it is often misunderstood. Forty five ACP is a heavy, slow bullet, so the impulse is a push rather than the sharp snap you get from 10mm or a hot 9mm load. In a steel framed gun of this weight most shooters find it the most comfortable of the three, despite the bore diameter suggesting otherwise.

The trade on the Alpha Foxtrot Romulus 45 ACP is grip circumference. A double stack magazine holding a cartridge as fat as the 45 makes for a wide grip, wider than the same gun in 9mm. If the 9mm Romulus already felt like a lot of grip in your hand, this will feel like more. Handle one before you commit.

Build, optic mounting and the practical notes

The frame and slide of the Alpha Foxtrot Romulus 45 ACP are SUS416 stainless finished in matte DLC, a diamond like carbon coating that is harder and more wear resistant than nitride or Cerakote. The barrel is bull profile with a ramped, fully supported chamber, and the gun carries an accessory rail on the dust cover.

The slide of the Alpha Foxtrot Romulus 45 ACP is cut for an MOS style adapter plate, so it takes a Trijicon RMR or an RMSc footprint optic through the appropriate plate. That flexibility costs one extra interface between optic and slide, so use a torque driver and thread locker on the plate screws and check them periodically. As a MOS optic ready 45 pistol it will accept whatever you already own rather than dictating a footprint.

Two things to budget for on the Alpha Foxtrot Romulus 45 ACP. Double stack 1911 magazines do not interchange between brands and are expensive, and 45 versions are a smaller market than 9mm, so spares cost more and appear less often. And 45 ACP costs more per round than 9mm, which matters if you shoot volume.

Quote Alpha Foxtrot AA39X4CID-XDBK13 when you order. The Romulus range now spans 9mm, 10mm and 45 ACP across three barrel lengths, two finishes, four muzzle treatments and two optic mounting systems, and the part number is the only reliable way to identify a specific gun; the descriptions and suffixes do not track consistently between configurations. Alpha Foxtrot publishes their lineup at Alpha Foxtrot. If you want more rounds and cheaper practice, the same pistol in 9mm is on the shelf, and the rest of our handguns are here.

Why it is worth considering

  • Thirteen rounds of 45 ACP against seven or eight in a traditional 1911.
  • A slow, pushing recoil impulse that most shooters find easier than 10mm.
  • DLC over stainless is among the harder wearing finishes on a production handgun.
  • Optic ready and fully ambidextrous from the box.

Who it suits

The Alpha Foxtrot Romulus 45 ACP suits a shooter who wants 45 ACP but has always resented the round count, and anyone who prefers a push to a snap in recoil. It is a large handgun with a wide grip, so it is a range, competition and home defense proposition rather than an easy concealed carry gun. If your hands are small, or you shoot enough that ammunition cost matters, buy the 9mm instead.
