Smith Wesson 642 Airweight Rose Gold – Superb Revolver

Description

The Smith Wesson 642 Airweight Rose Gold is the 642 Airweight in a rose gold finish, keeping everything that made this the most-carried snub revolver in America and giving it a look that stands apart from the usual black and silver.

Smith Wesson 642 Airweight Rose Gold The Most Carried Revolver in America

The 642 has been the default answer to what small revolver should I carry for the better part of thirty years. The reasons are simple and have not changed: it weighs 15 ounces, it has no exposed hammer to snag, it fires from a pocket without catching on the lining, and it works.

This version wears a rose gold finish on the aluminum alloy frame, with the cylinder and barrel left bright. It is a genuine departure from the usual matte black or stainless, and it reads as a deliberate choice rather than a novelty once you have it in hand.

Everything under the finish is the standard 642. Aluminum alloy frame, 1.875 inch barrel, five rounds of 38 Special rated for +P, double action only with a fully enclosed hammer.

What 15 Ounces Buys and Costs

The weight is the whole point. A 15 ounce revolver rides in a pocket, on an ankle or in a waistband holster without dragging on a belt, which means it gets carried on days a heavier gun would be left at home. The gun you have with you is the one that matters.

Be honest about the trade, though. Fifteen ounces of aluminum firing 38 Special +P recoils hard. The gun jumps, the small grip concentrates that force into the web of the hand, and most shooters find that twenty rounds is a full session. Standard-pressure 38 Special is much more pleasant for practice.

The sights are a milled integral front and a fixed groove rear. They are usable and they will never snag on anything, but they are not adjustable and they are not fast in low light. This is a gun designed for close distances.

Why Buyers Choose the Smith Wesson 642 Airweight Rose Gold

A concealed hammer means the gun can be drawn from a pocket without catching, and can be fired from inside a coat pocket if it comes to that. Exposed-hammer revolvers cannot do either reliably.

There is no manual safety, no slide to rack and no magazine to seat. Under stress that simplicity is worth a great deal, particularly for someone who does not train constantly.

Aluminum alloy keeps the weight at a level almost anyone will carry every day, which is the single biggest factor in whether a defensive handgun is ever actually present when needed.

The rose gold finish makes the gun easy to identify as yours and gives a distinctive look without changing anything about how it functions.

Who Should Buy It

The Smith Wesson 642 Airweight Rose Gold suits anyone wanting a light, simple carry revolver for pocket or purse, shooters who want a backup gun, and buyers who like the 642 platform but want something other than the standard finish. Newer shooters should plan to practice with standard-pressure 38 Special and save +P for carry.
