Description

Smith Wesson 15-22 Sport Optic 25 Rd black 22 LR AR pattern rifle with red green dot optic

The Smith Wesson 15-22 Sport Optic 25 Rd is the optics-ready M&P15-22 Sport supplied with a factory-mounted M&P red and green dot, so the rifle arrives sighted-in ready rather than needing an optic purchase before it is useful.

Smith Wesson 15-22 Sport Optic 25 Rd An AR That Shoots 22 LR

The M&P15-22 is not an AR-15 with a conversion kit in it. It is a purpose-built 22 LR rifle that copies the AR-15 layout, dimensions and controls, which means everything you learn on it transfers to a centerfire rifle while the ammunition costs a fraction as much.

Because it is designed around the rimfire cartridge rather than adapted to it, the rifle is light at roughly 4.8 pounds and it works reliably. Conversion kits in centerfire uppers are notoriously fussy; this is not one.

The controls sit exactly where an AR shooter expects them. Functioning charging handle, receiver-mounted safety lever, shell deflector, magazine release and bolt catch all operate the same way, and the 6-position CAR stock adjusts to fit shooters of any size.

The Included MP-100 Optic

The optic is the MP-100, a one-piece tube red and green dot with a 4.0 MOA round reticle and variable intensity in both colors. Eye relief is unlimited, adjustments click at a quarter MOA at 100 yards, and flip-open lens caps and a CR1620 battery are included. It mounts to standard Picatinny rails, so it can move to another rifle later.

Red and green matters more than it sounds. Green is easier for many eyes to pick up against foliage and in daylight; red draws less battery and is gentler at night. Having both in one optic means you are not locked into a compromise.

Underneath, the rifle keeps the 10 inch M&P slim handguard with Magpul M-LOK and the 2 inch M-LOK rail panel, a functioning charging handle and the 2-position receiver-mounted safety.

Why Buyers Choose the Smith Wesson 15-22 Sport Optic 25 Rd

Rimfire practice costs a small fraction of centerfire, and a rifle that handles identically to an AR-15 turns that cheap practice into training rather than plinking.

The M&P15-22 has been in production since 2009 and has one of the strongest reliability reputations of any semi-automatic 22 rifle, which is not a low bar to clear given how fussy the cartridge can be.

Recoil is essentially nonexistent, which makes this an excellent first rifle for a new or younger shooter and a good diagnostic tool for an experienced one.

Magazines, parts and accessories are widely available and inexpensive, and the M-LOK handguard accepts the same accessories as any modern rifle.

Who Should Buy It

The Smith Wesson 15-22 Sport Optic 25 Rd suits first-time rifle buyers who want a complete setup in one purchase, families teaching new shooters where a dot makes hitting far easier, and anyone wanting inexpensive AR-pattern practice. Keep a spare CR1620 battery, and confirm zero before relying on the rifle for pest control.

The One Thing To Know Before You Buy A Smith Wesson 15-22 Sport Optic 25 Rd

This rifle has no iron sights at all. The distributor record lists sights as none; the M&P MP-100 red/green dot is the only aiming device on it. That is different from the standard 15-22 Sport, which ships with folding Magpul MBUS irons and no optic. If the battery dies on a Smith Wesson 15-22 Sport Optic 25 Rd you have nothing to aim with until you replace it, so keep the spare CR1620 in the case rather than in a drawer at home. If you would rather have irons underneath a dot you fit yourself, buy the standard Sport and an optic separately.

Before You Order A Smith Wesson 15-22 Sport Optic 25 Rd

Distributor restrictions on this SKU: no direct shipment to Rhode Island or Washington, and no sale to Illinois under PICA, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands or Guam. Several states also restrict AR-pattern rifles by feature or magazine capacity, so tell us the destination and we will check before taking the order.

Buy the magazines and the ammunition with your Smith Wesson 15-22 Sport Optic 25 Rd. The factory 25-round M&P15-22 magazine is the one to own, and Armscor 22 LR 36gr HVHP is what we hold in depth. Rimfire is fussy about brand, so try a box or two of a few before committing to a case.

The threaded muzzle on the Smith Wesson 15-22 Sport Optic 25 Rd takes the A2 hider it came with or another muzzle device. A rimfire suppressor is a National Firearms Act item requiring ATF approval, and MAG5 does not sell them.

Other versions we carry: the ten-round Optic model and the compliant Optic model for restricted states, and the MOE SL with the full Magpul furniture package.

Rimfire cartridge standards are published by the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute; the factory page is at Smith and Wesson.

Every firearm we list ships to your chosen FFL and is transferred there after a background check.
