Description

The Sig Sauer P226 MK25 9mm is the P226 that earned the platform its reputation. When the Navy adopted the pistol it asked for corrosion resistant internal components, a rail, an anchor on the slide and the same reliability the gun had already demonstrated. Sig built it, and then made the same pistol available commercially. This is that gun: double action single action, alloy framed, 4.4 inch barrel, three fifteen round magazines and SIGLITE tritium sights.
What The Navy Specification Actually Means
The visible mark is the anchor engraved on the left side of the slide, but the substantive differences are internal. Phosphate coating on the internal components is there to resist the corrosion that comes from saltwater and constant humidity, an environment that destroys ordinary bluing and steel parts on a schedule.
The frame carries a universal accessory rail, which was one of the Navys requirements and is now standard on nearly every duty pistol. The rest is a production P226: a 4.4 inch barrel, a 7.7 inch overall length and an alloy frame that keeps the weight sensible for a full size steel slide gun.
Three fifteen round magazines ship in the case. That is unusual generosity for a factory pistol, and it means the gun is ready for a class or a range day without a separate magazine purchase.
Trigger, Sights And Controls
This is a double action single action pistol. The first shot fires with a long heavy pull that cocks and drops the hammer, and every shot after fires from a short light single action break. A decocking lever on the frame lowers the hammer safely onto a loaded chamber without touching the trigger, and there is no manual safety to sweep off, so the gun is ready the moment it clears leather.
Shooters raised on striker fired pistols sometimes bounce off the double action first shot. Those who put in the repetitions generally stop thinking about it, and there is a solid argument that a heavy first pull is a feature rather than a compromise on a pistol carried hammer down with a round chambered.
SIGLITE night sights come standard, with tritium lamps front and rear that stay visible in complete darkness. Black polymer grip panels cover the alloy frame, and the whole pistol wears a black Nitron finish over the slide.

A word about what this pistol is not. The slide has no optic cut, so running a red dot means sending it to a machine shop. For a lot of P226 buyers that is beside the point, because the SIGLITE sights and the long sight radius cover the job and the gun is bought partly for what it represents. But anyone planning to mount a dot should know that going in and budget for the milling.
Why Buyers Choose The Sig Sauer P226 MK25 9mm
Buyers choose the Sig Sauer P226 MK25 9mm because of what the platform has already proven. Decades of military and law enforcement service sorted the design out long ago, and this particular configuration is the one that carried into some of the hardest use any handgun has seen.
The corrosion package is real rather than cosmetic. Phosphate coated internals and a Nitron slide are meaningful upgrades for anyone who carries in humidity, sweats through a holster or spends time around water, and they cost nothing extra here.
Three magazines and SIGLITE night sights are included, which together represent a few hundred dollars if bought after the fact. Add the alloy frame keeping the weight reasonable for a full size pistol and the value argument is easy.
Who Should Buy The Sig Sauer P226 MK25 9mm
This pistol suits a collector who wants the Navy configuration, a home defense buyer who prefers a hammer fired gun with a decocker, and a range shooter who enjoys running a double action first shot well. At 7.7 inches long it is large for daily concealed carry, but it is an outstanding nightstand and duty gun.
