Description

Sig Sauer P211 GTO 23 Round compensated 9mm pistol left side

Double stack 1911s have been a competition staple for thirty years and a maintenance headache for just as long, mostly because the magazines were proprietary, expensive and temperamental. The Sig Sauer P211 GTO 23 Round is Sig answer to that problem: a 2011 pattern pistol built around standard P320 magazines, so the feeding system is the most widely produced and thoroughly tested one on the market rather than a boutique part with a waiting list.

The Sig Sauer P211 GTO 23 Round magazine problem, solved

Anyone who has run a traditional 2011 knows the drill. Magazines cost well over a hundred dollars each, tuning them is part of ownership, and a bad one will cost you a stage. Sig sidestepped that entirely by designing a proprietary double stack chassis built around P320 magazine compatibility. They are cheap by comparison, available everywhere, and they have been through more institutional testing than any other pistol magazine currently in production.

What that does not change is the 1911 feel. The grip angle, the thumb safety, the grip safety and the single action trigger are all where a 1911 shooter expects them. This is not a striker fired pistol wearing 1911 clothing; it is a single action pistol with a Series 80 style firing pin safety, ambidextrous thumb safeties and a flat skeletonised trigger breaking between three and a half and four pounds.

This particular Sig Sauer P211 GTO 23 Round configuration ships with one twenty three round magazine and two twenty one round magazines, which is a serious amount of ammunition on hand for a pistol in this class and enough to run a division stage without a reload in most cases.

Sig Sauer P211 GTO 23 Round compensator, sights and build

The Sig Sauer P211 GTO 23 Round runs a 4.4 inch bull barrel that carries a MACH3D compensator, additively manufactured so the internal gas passages can be shaped in ways conventional machining cannot produce. The effect on a forty six ounce pistol firing nine millimetre is substantial: muzzle rise is close to flat and the sights track back to the same place with very little input from the shooter. That is the entire point of a race gun, and this one delivers it without a gunsmith fitting anything.

Sights on this version pair a fiber optic front sight with a black fixed rear, which is the traditional competition arrangement. The fiber gathers ambient light and glows brightly on an outdoor range, and a plain black rear gives a clean sight picture without competing dots pulling the eye. The slide is also cut for an optic using the SIG-LOC PRO mounting system, so a red dot can be added without milling.

The frame is stainless steel with an alloy grip module and G10 panels, and the slide is Nitron finished stainless with aggressive serrations. A full length Picatinny rail runs along the dust cover. Overall length is 8.5 inches, height 5.25 inches, width 1.48 inches and weight 45.9 ounces.

Be clear about what a compensated pistol costs you day to day. Gas vented upward means considerably more blast toward the shooter and anyone standing alongside, brighter flash in low light, and carbon building around the ports faster than on a plain barrel. Twenty three round magazines are also not legal everywhere, so check your state law before ordering; ten round configurations of this pistol exist.

Why Buyers Choose The Sig Sauer P211 GTO 23 Round

The magazine argument is the one that matters most over time. A competitor running a traditional 2011 will own eight or ten magazines, and at well over a hundred dollars each that is a significant part of the cost of the platform. P320 magazines cost a fraction of that and are stocked by every dealer in the country, which changes the running cost of competing rather than just the purchase price.

The second argument is that it arrives ready. A bull barrel, a compensator that works, a match trigger, an optic cut and three magazines are what a competitor would otherwise assemble over a season and a series of gunsmith appointments. Buying it built removes the build time and keeps everything under one warranty.

The third argument is weight used properly. Forty six ounces is a lot of pistol, and on a belt all day it would be a burden, but on a stage it is exactly what you want. Mass plus a compensator plus a low bore axis gives a gun that barely moves between shots, which is why the class exists.

Who Should Buy The Sig Sauer P211 GTO 23 Round

This is built for USPSA, 3-Gun and steel competition, and for the shooter who wants the flattest shooting nine millimetre available without commissioning a custom build. It works as a home defence pistol with a light on the rail if the blast indoors does not concern you. It is not a carry gun at forty six ounces, and it is not a sensible first pistol.
