Description
The Savage B17 Timberlite Thumbhole 17 HMR is a bolt-action rimfire rifle with an 18-inch heavy carbon fiber wrapped stainless steel barrel, a gray hardwood stock, a 10-round detachable magazine, and a user-adjustable trigger. It weighs about 5.3 lbs.
Savage B17 Timberlite Thumbhole 17 HMR Overview
Savage has built a reputation for accurate, dependable firearms at fair prices, and the B Series Timberlite Thumbhole continues that tradition with practical features that matter in the field and at the range. It is the kind of gun that earns a permanent place in the safe because it simply works, shot after shot, without fuss or expensive upgrades. The 17 HMR launches a light, fast bullet on a remarkably flat trajectory, which makes it a favorite for groundhogs, prairie dogs, crows, and other small varmints out past 150 yards.
Barrel and Action
The 18-inch heavy carbon fiber wrapped stainless steel barrel has a matte finish and a 1:9″ twist matched to 17 HMR bullets. The heavier profile steadies the rifle and resists heat for tight groups from a rest. Stainless steel adds corrosion resistance for wet weather. The carbon fiber wrap trims weight while keeping the barrel stiff. The muzzle is threaded for a muzzle device or suppressor where local law allows; suppressors are NFA items that require an approved ATF Form 4.
Stock and Fit
The gray hardwood stock is built to handle real-world use, and wood is a natural material, so every stock shows its own grain. Length of pull is 13.5″. Overall length is about 34.75″.
Sights and Optics
Scope bases (1 Piece, 20 MOA) come installed, so mounting an optic is quick and simple.
Trigger
Savage’s user-adjustable AccuTrigger lets you set your own pull weight for a crisp, clean break, and the center safety blade helps prevent accidental discharge. A light, predictable trigger makes accurate shooting much easier.
Capacity and Handling
The 10-round detachable magazine loads easily and makes unloading quick and safe. Spare magazines make range days more productive.
In the Field
Rimfire guns often prefer one load over another, so try a few brands of 17 HMR to find the one that groups best in your barrel. Pair it with a quality optic and a steady rest for the best results.
Key Features
Highlights from the factory spec sheet: Thread-in headspacing; Threaded with cap for 1/2-28; 10-round rotary magazine; 2 Sling Studs; 1 Piece Weaver Bases.
Ownership and Value
A quality rimfire is one of the most useful guns a family can own. It teaches fundamentals, controls pests, fills the freezer with small game, and provides endless low-cost practice. Savage rimfires are known for accuracy that punches well above their price, and spare magazines, scope mounts, and accessories are easy to find.
Care and Cleaning
A little routine care keeps the Savage B17 Timberlite Thumbhole 17 HMR running smoothly. After each outing, wipe down exposed metal, clean the bore, keep moving parts lightly lubricated, and store the gun in a dry place.
