Description
The Ruger Hawkeye FTW Hunter 6.5 Creedmoor was developed with the FTW Ranch shooting school in Texas, where thousands of hunters learn to shoot at distance every year. Everything on it exists because instructors there watched hunters need it, which is a better design process than most rifles get.
Ruger Hawkeye FTW Hunter 6.5 Creedmoor Barrel and Muzzle
The 24 in. barrel is cold hammer forged stainless steel, a process that work hardens the bore and produces a very consistent, long lived barrel. Rifling is a 1:8 right hand twist, correct for the 140 to 147 grain high ballistic coefficient bullets 6.5 Creedmoor was built around.
The muzzle is threaded 5/8-24 and ships with a removable radial port muzzle brake, a dynamically matched weight and a thread protector. That matched weight is a detail worth understanding. Swapping the brake for the weight keeps barrel harmonics the same, so your zero does not move when you take the brake off.
Action, Stock and Trigger
The Hawkeye action is Ruger Mauser style controlled round feed with a non rotating claw extractor, which strips a cartridge from the magazine and holds it all the way through the cycle. It is the system that made the Model 98 famous for reliability and it still works, particularly when a rifle is fired from odd angles.
A three position safety lets you lock the bolt, unload safely with the striker blocked, or fire. The receiver carries an integral 20 MOA Picatinny rail, which gives you elevation to spare at distance and removes the base screws that can loosen.
The stock is an H-S Precision synthetic in a tan and black speckled pattern, with a full length aluminium bedding block moulded into it. That block is the reason this rifle holds zero the way it does, since the action beds to metal rather than to a flexing polymer shell. The LC6 trigger breaks cleanly and length of pull is 13.5 in.

Why the FTW Details Matter
The matched brake weight, the 20 MOA rail and the bedding block are all answers to problems that show up at a long range shooting school rather than in a catalogue. Hunters arrive with rifles that shift zero when a brake comes off, run out of elevation at six hundred yards, or drift as the stock flexes against a bipod. This rifle addresses each of those.
The 8.1 lb. weight is part of the same thinking. It is heavier than a mountain rifle on purpose, because a rifle that hangs steady on target is easier to shoot well at distance, and 6.5 Creedmoor recoils so little that the weight is not needed to tame it.
Why Buyers Choose the Ruger Hawkeye FTW Hunter 6.5 Creedmoor
Controlled round feed, an H-S Precision stock and a hammer forged stainless barrel is a combination that used to mean a custom build. Here it comes assembled, tested and warrantied, with a brake and a rail already fitted.
It is also a rifle that will still be working in thirty years. Stainless steel, an aluminium bedding block and a Mauser style extractor are not fashionable choices, they are durable ones.
Who Should Buy It
The Ruger Hawkeye FTW Hunter 6.5 Creedmoor suits hunters who take shots past four hundred yards and want a rifle that holds zero through a season of abuse, shooters heading to a long range school who want the right tool, and anyone who values controlled round feed reliability. Pair it with a scope that has enough elevation travel to take advantage of the 20 MOA rail.
