Description
The Rock River Arms LAR-15M CAR A4 is the classic flat top carbine done properly. A 16 inch chrome moly threaded barrel with an A2 flash hider, a black aluminum receiver with a full length Picatinny rail and a six position stock make it the AR-15 most people picture when they think of the platform.
The Configuration That Defined the AR-15
There is a reason the 16 inch flat top carbine has outsold every other AR configuration for thirty years. It is short enough to work indoors and from a vehicle, long enough to get full performance from 5.56, and light enough to carry without complaint.
Rock River builds this one to mil-spec dimensions throughout, so every stock, grip, handguard, trigger and optic mount made for an AR-15 fits directly. Nothing about the rifle locks you into proprietary parts later.
Rock River Arms LAR-15M CAR A4 Barrel and Muzzle
The barrel is 16 inches of chrome moly steel, threaded at the muzzle with an A2 flash hider fitted from the factory. Chrome moly is the traditional AR barrel steel: tough, easy to shoot accurately and considerably cheaper to replace than stainless when a barrel finally wears out.
The A2 hider does its job well and unscrews easily if you would rather run a brake, a compensator or a suppressor mount. The threads are the standard 1/2×28 pitch every 5.56 muzzle device is cut for.
Receiver, Stock and Grip
The upper is a flat top A4 with a full length Picatinny rail, so red dots, magnifiers, low power variables and back-up irons all mount without an adapter. There is no carry handle to work around.
The stock is Rock River’s own six position tactical CAR unit, adjustable for length of pull and for shooting in heavy clothing or body armour. The grip is an overmolded A2, which is more comfortable than the bare polymer original.

Ammunition and Practical Accuracy
Chambered for 5.56 NATO, the rifle also shoots .223 Remington safely. Bulk 55 grain ball is the cheapest practice ammunition on the market, while 62 and 69 grain loads tighten groups for anyone who wants more from the gun. With a red dot, hits on a torso target at 200 yards are routine.
Why Buyers Choose the Rock River Arms LAR-15M CAR A4
The Rock River Arms LAR-15M CAR A4 is a known quantity from a manufacturer that has been building ARs since before the platform was mainstream. It ships in a case with a magazine, it is mil-spec throughout, and it does not ask you to pay for features you may not want.
Who Should Buy It
First time AR buyers, anyone who wants a straightforward home defense or range carbine, and shooters who intend to build the rifle out over time. It is also a sensible training rifle for a household where more than one person will shoot it.
Be clear about the trade-offs. This is a conventional handguard rather than a free float rail, the trigger is a standard single stage unit, and no sights or optic are included. Those are the choices that keep the price sensible.
