Description
The Retay Gordion 12 Ga Realtree Legacy 28 is a 12 gauge inertia-driven semi-automatic shotgun with a 28 inch barrel, a 3 inch chamber and a Realtree Legacy camo finish. It is built for hunters who want a light, reliable autoloader that is ready for birds right out of the box.
Retay Gordion 12 Ga Realtree Legacy 28 Overview
Retay designs and builds the Gordion line in Turkey with a focus on barrels, and it shows. The barrel is deep-bore drilled dead straight rather than straightened after drilling, and it has a factory-lengthened forcing cone that helps keep patterns tight and consistent. The Waterfowl configuration wraps the gun in full camo coverage so it disappears in the blind, and the corrosion-resistant finish stands up to wet, muddy mornings in the marsh.
The action runs on the Inertia Plus rotating bolt, which locks up fully with no rattle and cycles a wide range of 2-3/4 and 3 inch loads. Weight is about 6 lb 6 oz, so it carries easily on long walks and swings quickly on flushing birds. The trigger group, trigger guard and receiver use aluminum components instead of plastic, and the gun ships with five extended choke tubes so you can match the constriction to your hunt.
Gordion Features and Design
The Gordion is built around a few features that matter most in the field. The Dead Straight barrel and lengthened forcing cone help put more pellets on the target. The Inertia Plus bolt gives full lock-up and dependable cycling. The plastic-free receiver and trigger guard hold up to hard use, and the oversized controls are easy to work with gloves on. A TruGlo fiber optic bead gives a bright aiming reference in low light, and the 14.37 inch length of pull fits a wide range of shooters.
Hunting With the 12 gauge Gordion
Inertia actions keep the chamber clean because there is no gas system to foul, which makes them a favorite for long seasons. With the included choke set, you can run improved cylinder for close-flushing birds, modified for general hunting and full for longer passing shots. The 4+1 capacity covers most field situations, and the included limiter makes it easy to stay legal for migratory birds.
Field Care for an Inertia Shotgun
An inertia gun needs very little maintenance. After a hunt, wipe the gun down, run a bore snake through the barrel, clean the bolt face and apply a light coat of oil. Keep the action dry rather than heavily lubricated in cold weather. Remove and clean the choke tube regularly and add a little choke lube to the threads so it never seizes.
Choosing Shells
Pattern your shotgun with several loads at the distances you expect to shoot, since every barrel and choke combination behaves differently. Use the right shot size for your game or target and follow local rules on nontoxic shot where required.
Fit and Mounting
A shotgun that fits lets you look straight down the rib with your cheek firmly on the stock. Practice smooth gun mounts at home with an unloaded gun to build consistency in the field and on the clay range.
Care and Maintenance
Clean the bore, chokes and action after each outing, especially after rain or salt water. A light coat of oil on metal parts and a clean action keep the shotgun running reliably for years.
Choke Selection
Tighter chokes such as modified and full extend effective range for waterfowl and turkey, while improved cylinder and skeet chokes open patterns for close birds and clay targets. Always use chokes rated for the shot you are shooting, especially steel.
Recommended Accessories
Eye and ear protection, a cleaning kit, extra choke tubes and a padded case are smart additions. Hunters may want a sling, while clay shooters often add a shell pouch and recoil reducing pad.
