Description
The Retay Gordion 12 Ga Bottomland 28 is a shotgun chambered in 12 Gauge with a 28-inch barrel and a 4+1 capacity.
Retay Gordion 12 Ga Bottomland 28 Overview
The Retay Gordion is the company’s lightest semi-automatic platform, built around a single-piece alloy receiver with a plastic-free trigger and integrated trigger guard. The waterfowl models wear full camo for duck and goose blinds. Fit matters more with a shotgun than with almost any other firearm, because you point it rather than aim it. Check that the stock length lets you mount the gun smoothly with your eye centered over the rib, and pattern the gun with the chokes and loads you plan to use.
A few trips to the trap or sporting clays field before the season will sharpen your swing and help you learn how the gun handles.
Design and Features
The Dead Straight Deep-Bore Drilled barrel and factory-lengthened forcing cone put more pellets on target, and Easy Out Magazine Unloading lets you empty the tube without cycling every shell through the action. Shells and chokes make a big difference in performance. Match the load to the game, from light target loads for clays to heavier shot for waterfowl and turkey, and pattern the gun at the distances you expect to shoot. Keeping the action and choke threads clean and lightly oiled will keep the gun running reliably for many seasons.
Handling in the Field
Retay’s Straight Line Inertia Transfer action uses the patented Inertia Plus rotating bolt with a rollover torsion spring, which gives full lock-up with no bolt rattle and cycles a wide range of loads without gas ports to clean. From the duck blind to the sporting clays course, the Gordion swings fast and recovers quickly.
Action and Trigger
The trigger group removes quickly for cleaning, and the oversized safety is easy to find with gloves on.
Sights and Optics
A fiber optic front bead gives a bright, fast reference on passing birds.
The 12 Gauge Cartridge
The 12 Gauge offers a good balance of power, accuracy, and recoil for its intended use.
Setup and Accessories
Set your shotgun up for its job: hunters will want a sling and a few choke tubes, clay shooters may add a recoil pad, and a home-defense setup benefits from a weapon light. Pattern every load and choke combination you plan to use.
Ownership Tips
Read the owner’s manual fully before your first range trip, and keep the manual, box, and receipt with your records for warranty service and resale. Unload the shotgun and confirm it is empty before cleaning. Field-strip it according to the owner’s manual, scrub the bore with a brush and patches, and wipe carbon from the action and choke threads. Apply a light coat of quality gun oil to the contact points, and wipe the exterior with a lightly oiled cloth before storage.
