Description

The Retay Ace-R Paloma is the rounded receiver sporting gun in Retay inertia line, and this is the 30 inch version. Polished black end to end, six pounds five ounces on the scale, and a barrel length that most serious clays shooters end up preferring once they have shot both.

What the Retay Ace-R Paloma Brings to a Clays Course

Thirty inches of barrel on the Retay Ace-R Paloma puts more weight ahead of your hands, and that weight is what carries a swing through a target rather than letting it stall at the moment you pull. On long crossers and quartering presentations, follow through is most of the difference between a chip and a break.

The Retay Ace-R Paloma receiver is what separates the R line. Retay calls it a streamlined profile, which rounds off the squared lines of the standard gun into something closer to a classic shotgun. The construction is alloy with no polymer components inside, which keeps a 30 inch twelve gauge at six pounds five ounces.

The Retay Ace-R Paloma action is inertia driven. The Inertia Plus bolt uses a rollover torsion spring to rotate the bolt head positively into battery, which is the fix for the one legitimate weakness inertia guns used to have. With no gas system there is nothing to foul, which matters when you shoot two hundred rounds in an afternoon.

Chokes, Capacity and Fit

Five extended black choke tubes come with every Retay Ace-R Paloma, covering cylinder through full. Extended tubes are the right call for a sporting shotgun because you change them at every station, and turning them by hand instead of hunting for a wrench saves real time and real frustration.

Capacity on the Retay Ace-R Paloma is 3+1 with a 3 inch chamber, so the same gun handles light target loads and heavier field shells for doves. The receiver is not drilled and tapped, so plan on the single fiber optic bead rather than a rib mounted optic. For clays that is the correct arrangement anyway.

The Retay Ace-R Paloma barrel is deep bore drilled from straight stock with a factory lengthened forcing cone, aimed at more consistent patterns and a gentler push. Length of pull is 14.5 inches with a shim kit included, and the trigger group comes out at the push of a button with no tools.

Who It Is For

Sporting clays and trap shooters are the obvious buyers. A Retay Ace-R Paloma costs a fraction of a dedicated competition over and under and gives you a light, smooth tracking gun with easy choke changes, which covers most of what a club shooter needs.

Dove hunters over open fields get the same benefit. Long passing shots reward a gun that keeps swinging, and six pounds five ounces is no burden between fields. A Retay Ace-R Paloma handles clays and field loads with nothing more than a choke change.

Where it is the wrong gun is waterfowl. No camouflage, no 3.5 inch chamber, no drilled and tapped receiver, and a polished black shotgun in a blind is working against you. The camo Ace models are the guns for that job.

A few practical notes before ordering a Retay Ace-R Paloma. Set the stock up with the included shim kit before your first round, because a light gun rewards good fit and shows up a bad one quickly. Break the action in with standard velocity target loads rather than the lightest promotional shells, since inertia systems need a certain amount of recoil energy to cycle reliably when new.

Keep a spare choke or two in the bag, and use the push button trigger group removal when you clean it, since doing it without tools is the whole point. Full factory specifications are published on the Retay USA product page, and you can compare it against the standard Ace Paloma 30 or browse our other shotguns.
