Retay, a Turkish manufacturer with a strong reputation for value-packed inertia shotguns, offers the ACE platform in two lines, the ACE and the ACE-R, which share the same core design and specifications. Both run on the Straight Line Inertial Transfer System and the Inertia Plus rotating bolt for full lock-up with no bolt rattle. The ACE-R is set apart by its own receiver styling and finish options. This version wears Gamekeeper Mossy Oak Original Bottomland with a bronze receiver, a finish chosen to blend into the marsh, timber, and fields where hunters actually use it.
Inertia Action and Rotating Bolt
Because an inertia gun cycles from recoil rather than gas, there are no ports or pistons to foul, and cleanup is quick. That is a real advantage in rain, snow, and mud. Inertia designs can be picky with very light target loads, especially during break-in, so shoot a few boxes of standard field loads first. Avoid adding heavy accessories that change the gun’s weight a lot, since inertia actions are tuned for a set mass.
Barrel and Chokes
The barrel is deep-bore drilled for straightness, and Retay lengthens the forcing cone at the factory to reduce pellet deformation, which the company says puts up to 20 percent more pellets on target. Seven extended long-range chokes from cylinder through extra full come with the gun, so you can pattern it for upland birds, doves, and early-season ducks. A single fiber-optic bead gives a fast sight picture.
Recoil Reduction and Fit
The AIRY recoil pad uses an internal air pocket to absorb and spread recoil, and Retay rates it for up to 30 percent less felt recoil. Length of pull is 14.5 inches, and an included shim kit lets you adjust drop and cast to fit your build. At about 5 lb 9 oz, the gun carries easily but still has enough mass to stay steady on the swing.
Handy Features
The Easy Out magazine unloading system lets you empty the magazine without cycling every shell through the chamber, which is safer and faster when crossing fences or leaving a blind. The push-button trigger group removes without tools, and the oversized safety is reversible for left-handed shooters. The 20 gauge receiver is not drilled and tapped for an optic rail.
