Description
The Retay ACE 28 Gauge Upland Ultralight 24″ is Retay’s lightest field gun: a 28 gauge semi-auto that weighs just 5 lb 6 oz and is built around an inertia action, a deep bore drilled barrel and a AA-grade satin walnut stock. This listing is Retay model C-ACEUL-24, UPC 193212036124, MSRP $1,199.

Retay ACE 28 Gauge Upland Ultralight 24 Overview
Upland hunters walk a lot more than they shoot, which is why a light, fast-handling gun matters. The Retay ACE 28 Gauge Upland Ultralight 24″ pairs the soft-shooting 28 gauge shell with a slim, plastic-free aluminum receiver and a 24-inch barrel, giving you a quick-pointing gun that carries easily over a long day behind dogs. Retay offers the same gun with a 26-inch barrel for hunters who prefer a little more swing weight.
Inertia Shotgun Action
The Retay ACE 28 Gauge Upland Ultralight 24″ runs on Retay’s Inertia Plus rotating bolt, which locks up fully and is designed to eliminate the bolt rattle some inertia guns have. An inertia shotgun has no gas system to foul, so it stays cleaner and lighter than a gas gun. The trade-off is that very light target loads may not cycle reliably, especially in a new gun, so shoot a box or two of full upland loads to break it in.

The trigger group drops out with a push of a button for cleaning, and Retay’s Easy Out magazine unloading lets you empty shells from the tube without cycling them through the action, a handy feature when you cross a fence or put the gun in the truck.
Barrel, Chokes and Recoil
Retay’s Dead Straight deep bore drilled barrel is drilled from solid steel, and a factory-lengthened forcing cone eases the transition from chamber to bore. Retay says this puts up to 20 percent more pellets on target. Five flush chokes (cylinder, improved cylinder, modified, improved modified and full) cover everything from close-flushing quail to late-season pheasants. The Airy recoil reduction system cuts felt recoil by up to 30 percent, which helps a lot in a gun this light.
AA-Grade Walnut and Fit
The stock and forend are AA-grade walnut with a satin finish that looks at home in any field. Length of pull is 14.5 inches, and an included shim kit lets you adjust drop and cast. A single fiber optic bead and an oversized, reversible safety make the gun easy to run for right- and left-handed shooters.

Before You Buy the Retay ACE 28 Gauge Upland Ultralight 24
28 gauge shells cost more and are harder to find than 12 or 20 gauge, and 3-inch 28 gauge loads are rare, so most hunters will shoot standard 2-3/4 inch shells. A gun this light recoils more than a heavier one with the same load even with the Airy system. Because the receiver is not drilled and tapped, it is not set up for an optic. As an upland bird gun it shines; it is not the right choice for waterfowl with heavy steel loads.
