Description
The Radian Model 1 16 Inch Grey is a hand-assembled .223 Wylde AR-15 from Radian Weapons, built on billet 7075-T6 receivers with a 16-inch match-grade 416R stainless barrel and a full set of ambidextrous controls. The upper, lower, and handguard are finished in Radian Grey Cerakote as one matched set. At 16 inches the barrel meets the legal minimum on its own, so the Dead Air KeyMo flash hider sits on standard threads instead of being pinned, and the Radian Model 1 16 Inch Grey can take any 1/2×28 muzzle device you choose.

Hand built and Cerakoted as a matched set
Every Radian Model 1 rifle is assembled one at a time by a single gunsmith who inspects it, test fires it, and cleans it before it leaves the shop. That is a different process from a production line, and it shows in the details: tight upper-to-lower fit, a handguard that is pinned to the upper so it cannot rotate, and controls that feel crisp from the first round. Radian backs the Model 1 with a lifetime guarantee, and it is designed and manufactured in the USA.
Because the receivers and handguard are coated together, the Radian Grey Cerakote matches across all three parts instead of nearly matching. Radian Grey is a flat, medium gray that hides dust and scuffs better than black, and the Cerakote adds a layer of corrosion and wear resistance over the anodized aluminum. Paired with black Magpul furniture and black controls, the grey receivers give the Radian Model 1 16 Inch Grey a subtle two-tone look.

Why choose the 16-inch Model 1
Sixteen inches is the most versatile barrel length for an AR-15. It is the federal minimum for a rifle, so no muzzle device has to be pinned, and it squeezes a little more velocity from 5.56 than a 14.5-inch barrel. The threaded muzzle means you can swap the KeyMo flash hider for a brake, a different suppressor mount, or a thread protector whenever you like. If you have been searching for a 16 inch AR-15 that you will not need to upgrade, this is a strong candidate.
The Radian Model 1 16 Inch Grey is only slightly longer than the 14.5-inch pinned version, and because it keeps the Dead Air KeyMo flash hider, it will still host KeyMo-compatible suppressors if you add one later. For most owners who do not need the shortest possible rifle, the 16-inch barrel is the simpler, more flexible choice.
An ambidextrous AR-15 without the add-ons
Radian made its name selling control upgrades, and this rifle is built almost entirely from them. The Raptor-SD charging handle latches from either side and is shaped to cut gas to the face when suppressed. The A-DAC lower lets you lock the bolt back and release it from the right side, and the magazine release works from both sides. The Talon safety can be set for a short 45-degree or standard 90-degree throw. For left-handed shooters this is a true ambidextrous AR-15; for right-handed shooters it means faster reloads and malfunction clearing without breaking your grip.
The Vertex CBX trigger gives a clean, consistent break that suits both fast strings and slow precision work. Out of the box the Radian Model 1 16 Inch Grey needs only an optic and a sling, which is the whole point: you are not paying for a base rifle and then replacing half of it.
Accuracy and the barrel
Radian guarantees sub-MOA accuracy with Black Hills match-grade ammunition. The .223 Wylde chamber handles both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO safely while giving match ammunition the tighter throat it prefers, which is why so many precision-minded builders choose a 223 Wylde AR-15. The barrel is threaded 1/2×28 and runs a direct impingement mid-length gas system, which spreads out the recoil impulse and makes the Radian Model 1 16 Inch Grey a smooth, flat-shooting rifle.
Honest trade-offs before you buy
The Radian Model 1 16 Inch Grey sits at the top of the AR-15 market on price, and you are paying for machining, finish, and hand assembly as much as function. A well-built mid-tier carbine will run just as reliably. No sights or optic are included. Radian Grey is also less common than black, so matching accessories in the same shade can take some searching.
Check your state before you order. The rifle ships with a 30-round Magpul PMAG, which is not legal in states with magazine capacity limits, and some states restrict featured semi-automatic rifles outright. Adding a suppressor requires an approved ATF Form 4 and registration, plus a wait, and suppressors are not legal in every state. MAG5 does not sell NFA items, but we are happy to talk through the process.
Who the Radian Model 1 16 Inch Grey suits
The Radian Model 1 16 Inch Grey makes sense for shooters who want one premium AR-15 for home defense, training classes, and practical matches, in a finish that stands apart from a rack of black rifles. It is less compelling if you want a budget rifle to learn on, or if you prefer to build your own and pick every part yourself.
