The Proof Research Elevation MTR 308 Win is the short, suppressor-friendly member of the Elevation MTR family. It runs a 16.5 inch Proof carbon fiber wrapped match grade barrel on a Zermatt Arms Origin action, feeds 4+1 from a detachable box magazine, and wears a Proof carbon fiber stock in Midnight camo. Sub-MOA accuracy is guaranteed in writing.
Proof Research Elevation MTR 308 Win Barrel and Length
The barrel is a match grade steel liner wrapped in carbon fiber using Proof own patented process, in a Sendero contour, threaded 5/8-24 at the muzzle with a thread protector included. Twist is 1:10, which is the correct rate for the full range of 308 bullet weights from 150 grain hunting loads to 175 grain match.
Sixteen and a half inches is a deliberate choice rather than a compromise. 308 Winchester loses very little velocity going from 20 inches to 16.5 compared with a magnum, and what you gain is a rifle that stays handling-friendly once a suppressor is mounted. Add a typical 30 caliber can and the overall length still comes in shorter than a standard 22 inch hunting rifle.
Zermatt Origin Action, Stock, and Weight
The Zermatt Arms Origin action is the foundation. It is a Remington 700 footprint design built to custom tolerances, with an interchangeable bolt head, a 60 degree throw, and a modified ball bolt knob. The black receiver ships with a single piece Picatinny rail already pinned in place, which removes the most common source of scope mounting problems.
The stock is Proof fixed carbon fiber in Midnight camo, a dark green and black pattern that works well in timber and shadow despite the name. Length of pull is 13 5/8 inches, and the trigger is a TriggerTech. Between the carbon barrel, the carbon stock, and the short barrel length, this is the lightest configuration in the MTR lineup.
