Description

The 410 is the hardest gauge to shoot well and the most satisfying when you do. The PPU Stars and Stripes 410GA 1/2oz #9 shot is the load that gives you the best odds: the smallest pellets available in the smallest payload the gauge carries.

Why Pellet Count Decides 410 Skeet
A half ounce of shot is not much. Number 9 pellets run roughly 585 to the ounce, so a 1/2 ounce charge sends about 292 pellets downrange. That sounds thin against the 658 a 12 gauge target load carries, and it is, which is exactly why pellet size matters more in the 410 than in any other gauge.
Go up to #8 or #7.5 in a 410 and pellet count falls to around 205 or 175. At skeet distances a clay only needs one or two pellets to break, so the PPU Stars and Stripes 410GA 1/2oz #9 shot trades pellet energy you do not need for pattern density you very much do. That is the whole argument for #9 in this gauge.
Prvi Partizan loads the Stars and Stripes Target Load line in Uzice, Serbia. Hardened lead shot holds its shape through the forcing cone and choke rather than deforming into flyers, which is what produces an even pattern instead of a patchy one.

Velocity is 1200 feet per second from a 2-1/2 inch hull, which is standard target-load speed and appropriate. Pushing a 410 faster mostly deforms pellets and opens patterns, and the recoil in a light single-barrel or over-under is already sharper than the gauge suggests.
The 2-1/2 inch length matters. Most 410 shotguns are chambered for 3 inch and will take either, but a few older guns and some skeet-specific barrels are 2-1/2 inch only. The PPU Stars and Stripes 410GA 1/2oz #9 shot fits both, so it is the safe choice when you are not certain what the gun is chambered for.
This is lead shot, which is fine on a clays range and not legal for waterfowl anywhere in the United States. Check your state rules before using it on any migratory bird.

Honest Notes on Shooting a 410
Buy the PPU Stars and Stripes 410GA 1/2oz #9 shot if you shoot 410 skeet, or if you are teaching a new shooter with a small-gauge gun. The pellet count is what breaks targets in this gauge, and this load has the most of it.
Skip it for anything past thirty yards. Number 9 pellets in a half-ounce charge run out of both pattern and energy quickly, and on a long crosser you will chip clays rather than break them.
Skip it entirely for hunting anything larger than a squirrel at close range. The 410 is a marginal hunting gauge to begin with, and a half ounce of #9 is a target load, not a game load.
Same brand in 12 gauge: Stars and Stripes 12ga Target Load 7.5 shot and Stars and Stripes 12ga 00 Buckshot. For 410 hunting loads, the Federal Game-Shok 410 3 inch 6 shot carries more payload. Prvi Partizan publishes full shotshell specifications on its own site.
MAG5 Firearms stocks 410 target and field loads. If you are not sure whether your shotgun is chambered for 2-1/2 or 3 inch shells, bring it by or send us the model and we will check.
