Description
The Pointer Sport Tek Trap 12ga 30in (model KIRSTT12) is an over/under trap gun from Pointer, the Turkish-made shotgun line imported by Legacy Sports International of Reno, Nevada. It has 30 inch ported barrels with 3 inch chambers, a wide raised ventilated rib, an adjustable comb and a Turkish walnut stock and forend.
Pointer Sport Tek Trap 12ga 30in Overview
Zanders lists chrome-lined bores, Mobil-thread choke tubes and five extended chokes (cylinder, improved cylinder, modified, improved modified and full), a 14 inch length of pull, a 45.2 inch overall length and a blued finish with checkered walnut and a recoil pad. MSRP is $649, which makes it one of the more affordable ways into a dedicated trap over/under.
Built for Trap
Trap targets rise as they leave the house, so trap guns shoot higher than field guns. The raised rib and adjustable comb let you set point of impact and get your eye aligned with the rib. Spend time patterning: adjust the comb until the gun shoots slightly high at 16 yards, then mark the setting.
Ported Barrels
The barrels are ported near the muzzle to vent gas upward and reduce muzzle jump, which helps when you take a second shot in doubles. Ports add noise and blast for the shooter and people next to you, so good hearing protection matters, and ports collect carbon that needs a scrub after each session.
Choke Choices
For 16 yard singles, modified or improved modified is the usual start, with full for handicap distances. Improved cylinder and cylinder are useful if you also shoot some skeet or close sporting presentations. The Mobil threading means Beretta and Benelli pattern aftermarket tubes also fit.
What We Could Not Confirm
Distributors do not agree on every detail. One lists the gun as a single-shot, which is wrong for this over/under, and none publish its weight or whether it has ejectors or extractors. Check the box before relying on any of those details, or ask us and we will check for you.
Value and Durability
Turkish over/unders have improved a lot, but they do not hold resale value like a Browning or Beretta and will not survive the round counts of a dedicated competition gun. For a new trap shooter or a league shooter who fires a few flats a season, that trade is easy to accept at this price.
State Laws and Ownership
A two-barrel over/under is one of the least regulated firearms you can buy and is legal to own in every state. Some states and cities still require a purchase permit, firearm ID card or waiting period for any gun, including New Jersey, New York City, Illinois and Massachusetts. Pennsylvania buyers go through the PICS check at the dealer counter. Hunters should check state rules on non-toxic shot for waterfowl and on hunter education before heading afield.
