Description

129 grain Nosler AccuBond Long Range bullet loaded in Nosler Trophy Grade 260 Rem 129gr ABLR

Nosler Trophy Grade 260 Rem 129gr ABLR is the long range hunting load for a cartridge that has always deserved one. The 129 grain AccuBond Long Range leaves the muzzle at 2800 fps for 2248 ft-lbs, carrying a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.530. Nosler catalogues it as 61022, twenty rounds to the box, on reloadable brass.

What Makes ABLR Different from AccuBond

A standard AccuBond is built to open at close to moderate range impact velocities. The Long Range version has a thinner jacket at the nose and a longer, more streamlined polymer tipped ogive, so it will still expand when it arrives slowed down at 500 or 600 yards, and the higher ballistic coefficient means it arrives with more velocity in the first place. Both halves of that matter equally.

Bonding is what keeps it together. The lead core is chemically bonded to the jacket, so the bullet holds weight through hide, bone and muscle rather than shedding its core. You get a bullet that opens reliably at long range and still penetrates properly at close range, which is the awkward combination most hunting bullets have to compromise on.

The .260 Remington has long been under appreciated. It fits a short action, recoils mildly, and drives a 129 grain 6.5mm bullet at 2800 fps with the same efficient bore that made the 6.5 Creedmoor famous. This 260 Remington hunting ammo gives it a modern high BC projectile, which is exactly what the cartridge was missing for years.

Honest Notes on the 260 Remington

Availability is the honest problem with the .260 Remington, not performance. The 6.5 Creedmoor took the market and factory .260 loads have thinned out considerably. This particular Nosler load is not currently listed on their website, which suggests it has been discontinued or is between production runs. If Nosler Trophy Grade 260 Rem 129gr ABLR shoots well in your rifle, buy what you can find and keep the brass.

Check your twist rate. A 129 grain 6.5mm bullet needs 1-9 or faster to stabilise, and while most .260 rifles are cut 1-8, a few older ones are slower. If your rifle was built for 120 grain bullets, confirm before ordering.

Bonded bullets trade some expansion for penetration and that is a deliberate choice. On a lightly built deer at close range the ABLR will pass through and leave less dramatic damage than a thin jacketed bullet would. That is the design working correctly, not failing, but it means shot placement carries more of the load.

Finally, be realistic about the long range part. A high ballistic coefficient bullet does not make a 600 yard shot ethical on its own. It buys you retained velocity and less wind drift; the rest is your rifle, your data and your ability to read conditions from field positions.

If .260 ammunition is hard to find, the 130 grain Hybrid OTM tactical match load is the other option we stock in the cartridge. Bullet specifications are published on the Nosler AccuBond Long Range page.

Nosler Trophy Grade 260 Rem 129gr ABLR suits deer and antelope hunters running a .260 Remington in a short action rifle who want a modern high BC bonded bullet. MAG5 Firearms is a family owned FFL in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. Boxes ship where state and local law allows.
