Description
The North American Arms Ranger II 4 Inch is the longest-barreled version of NAA’s break-open five-shot 22 Magnum. A 4 inch ribbed barrel, stainless frame and rosewood boot grips make it a handsome trail and range revolver.

North American Arms Ranger II 4 Inch Overview
This is model NAA-22M-R4 (UPC 744253003325). Distributor data lists a 4 inch barrel, about 8.8 ounces, stainless steel, fixed sights with a bead front, and rosewood boot grips. It is magnum only. The extra barrel gives 22 WMR more room to burn, and the longer sight radius makes it the most accurate-feeling gun in the Ranger II family.
Break-Top Operation
The Ranger II 4 Inch is a top-break revolver. Release the latch and the barrel and cylinder tip down, and the star ejector lifts all five cases at once, which makes it the quickest NAA to unload and reload. It is still single action, so you cock the hammer for each shot. The full-length rib and bead front sight give a cleaner sight picture than the tiny minis, and the extra barrel length adds both weight and velocity.

Four Inches of Barrel
A 4 inch barrel turns this little revolver into a real field gun. Velocity from 22 WMR is far closer to rifle-like figures than in the pocket models, which helps for pests and small game where legal. The longer sight radius and the bead front sight make careful aimed fire much easier, and the muzzle flash is noticeably tamer.
Ammunition
The Ranger II 4 Inch is chambered only for 22 WMR (22 Magnum). Never fire 22 LR, 22 Short or 22 WRF in it. Magnum rimfire costs more per round than 22 LR and supply can be uneven, so buy a few boxes of the load you trust and test it in your revolver. Short barrels give up a lot of the velocity printed on the box, and loads designed for short barrels tend to expand more reliably than rifle-oriented ammunition.

Living With the Ranger II
Be realistic about what a tiny rimfire revolver does well. The Ranger II 4 Inch is loud for its size, flash is heavy in low light, and sights are minimal, so practical accuracy is measured in a few yards for most shooters. Rimfire ignition is less certain than centerfire, which is one more reason to test your carry ammunition. At this length it is a belt or pack gun rather than a pocket gun, and holster choices are limited, so plan on a maker-specific or custom holster.
4 Inch vs. 2.5 Inch
The 2.5 inch Ranger II is easier to carry; this 4 inch model is easier to shoot well. If the gun will mostly ride in a tackle box, a pack or a hip holster on hikes, choose the longer barrel and enjoy the improved accuracy.
State Laws and Ownership
Pennsylvania buyers complete a standard handgun transfer with a PICS check at the receiving dealer, and carrying concealed outside your home or vehicle generally requires a License to Carry Firearms. Some states keep approved-handgun rosters (California and Massachusetts are the best-known examples) and may not allow the NAA Ranger II 4 Inch; New York, New Jersey and several cities add permit steps of their own. Check your state and local rules before ordering, because we cannot transfer a handgun into a jurisdiction that prohibits it.
