North American Arms Pug Ported Tritium Overview
The Pug is the beefiest frame in NAA’s 22 Magnum mini-revolver family. Compared with the tiny 22 Magnum Mini, it has a heavier 1 inch barrel, a full-size rubber pebble grip that fills more of your hand, and a fixed front sight you can actually find. This ported tritium version adds two refinements: ports cut near the muzzle and a night sight. The included Long Rifle cylinder lets you practice with cheap 22 LR and switch back to magnum loads when you carry.
Tritium Night Sight
The front sight is an XS tritium insert that glows in the dark without needing to be charged by light. On a gun this small the sight radius is very short, so precision shooting is not the goal; the value of tritium is being able to index the muzzle quickly in a dark room, parking lot or tent. Tritium has a half-life of about twelve years, so the glow slowly dims over a decade of ownership.
Ported Barrel: Benefits and Trade-offs
NAA cuts functional ports near the end of the barrel to vent some gas upward and reduce muzzle flip on 22 Magnum loads. With a revolver this light, every bit of control helps for a quick second shot. Ports also add flash and blast, which is more noticeable in low light, and they send gas upward, so keep your face and hand clear of the top of the barrel and wear hearing protection when practicing. Ports also collect carbon and need an occasional scrub.
Two Cylinders, Two Cartridges
The 22 Magnum cylinder delivers noticeably more energy than 22 LR, though a 1 inch barrel gives up much of the velocity printed on the box. The 22 LR conversion cylinder turns the gun into an inexpensive trainer and a fun plinker. To swap cylinders, you press the cylinder pin release, slide the pin out and drop the cylinder from the frame. The same procedure is used to load and unload, so practice it at home before you rely on the gun.
Single-Action Operation and Safe Carry
Like every NAA mini-revolver, the Pug is single action only: you cock the hammer for every shot. There is no manual safety lever. Instead, the cylinder has safety notches between the chambers, and the hammer rests in one of those notches for carry so it is not resting on a live round. Read the manual and practice lowering the hammer into the notch with the gun unloaded until it becomes routine.
Honest Expectations
This Pug is a deep-concealment backup or a woods-walking companion, not a primary defensive handgun. Five shots of rimfire, a slow reload and a tiny grip all limit what it can do, and rimfire ammunition is less reliable to ignite than centerfire. Choose loads designed for short barrels, test them in your gun, and carry it in a proper pocket or belt holster that covers the trigger.

Mini-revolvers are legal in most states, but handgun purchase rules vary widely.
