Description
The NAA Sidewinder 22 Mag Holster Grip (model NAA-SW-HG) is North American Arms’ five-shot 22 WMR mini revolver with a 1-1/8 inch barrel and a swing-out cylinder, packaged with NAA’s folding holster grip. It is a Lipsey’s special run that turns one of the smallest revolvers made into a pocket-ready package.
NAA Sidewinder 22 Mag Holster Grip Overview
North American Arms has built stainless mini revolvers in Utah for decades, and the Sidewinder is the model that answers the biggest complaint about them. On a standard mini you remove the cylinder pin and the cylinder to load. On the Sidewinder the cylinder swings out to the side, so loading and unloading are much faster and you are less likely to drop parts. It weighs about 6.2 ounces and measures 6.31 inches overall in this configuration.
The Folding Holster Grip
The holster grip is a hard black shell that wraps around the revolver. Closed, it covers the trigger and works as a holster with a pocket clip. Open, it swings down and becomes a larger grip that is far easier to hold than the tiny standard stocks. That makes a real difference with 22 Magnum, which is loud and snappy in a gun this small. Practice opening it until it is automatic.
Single Action Operation and Safety
Like all NAA mini revolvers, the Sidewinder is single action only: you cock the hammer for every shot and the spur trigger has no guard. Between each chamber the cylinder has a safety notch where the hammer can rest, so you can carry all five rounds without the hammer sitting on a live primer. Learn to lower the hammer into that notch correctly before you ever carry it.
Stainless Construction
The frame, cylinder and barrel are stainless steel, which resists sweat and moisture well in a pocket. Fixed sights are a simple groove and front post, adequate for close-range use only. Accuracy is limited by the tiny sight radius and short barrel, not the barrel itself. Plan on realistic distances of a few yards.
Where It Fits
The Sidewinder is a backup or deep-concealment gun for pocket carry, a tackle box or a hiking pack. It is not a primary defensive handgun: it holds five rounds, reloads slowly compared to a semi-auto, and 22 WMR from a 1-1/8 inch barrel loses much of its velocity. Choose loads designed for short barrels and confirm they fire reliably in your gun.
Ammunition and Care
Rimfire ammunition is less reliable than centerfire, so test several brands and keep the one that runs every time. Clean the cylinder face and chambers regularly, because fouling can make the cylinder bind. NAA backs its revolvers with a lifetime warranty and has a strong service reputation.
State Laws and Ownership
Some states restrict small handguns, require a permit or license to buy any handgun, or keep handgun rosters that may not include this special run. Carry laws for pocket pistols also vary, and many places require a carry permit. Ask your receiving FFL to confirm the transfer before ordering.
