The MPA Defender K 9mm Pistol, sold by MasterPiece Arms as the Defender 30K, is the lightest and most compact member of the Georgia company’s Defender line. It traces its roots to the 1970s Ingram MAC design, but takes Glock 17 and 19 pattern magazines and uses a standard AR-15 fire control group.
MPA Defender K 9mm Pistol Overview
This configuration, MPA30K, has a black steel upper and a grey aluminum lower, a 4.5 inch barrel threaded 1/2×28 with a thread protector, a non-reciprocating cocking handle, a Rise Armament fire control group with anti-walk pins and a B5 Systems P-22 grip. It is 12.52 inches long and 7.6 inches tall, and weighs 67.05 ounces without a magazine. It ships with MPA’s side-folder hinge and a buffer tube adapter (1-3/16×16 thread), with no brace or stock.
Glock Magazine Compatibility
Feeding from Glock 17 and 19 pattern magazines is the biggest practical upgrade over older Defender models. Spare magazines are cheap and everywhere, from 15 to 33-round factory mags to aftermarket drums. Distributors list this model as a 30-round configuration; magazine contents can vary by lot, so confirm what is in the box when you order.
Familiar AR Trigger
Because it uses an AR-15 lower parts layout, you can swap in any AR trigger you like. The Rise Armament unit it ships with is a solid upgrade over mil-spec. The grip is a B5 P-22 and can be swapped for any AR grip.
Side Folder and Rear Support
The included hinge and buffer tube adapter let you add a brace later. Adding a shoulder stock to a 4.5 inch barrel creates a short-barreled rifle that requires NFA registration; brace rules have shifted in court, so check current law before adding one.
Threaded Barrel
The 1/2×28 thread accepts common 9mm muzzle devices and suppressors. Suppressors are NFA items needing an approved ATF Form 4 and tax stamp, and they are illegal in several states.
