Description
The Military Armament Corp RA9 Defense S (MAC model 15000602, marketed as the RA-9S) is a full-size, striker-fired 9mm built on MAC’s serialized RA9 Monoblock chassis. It has a 4.75 inch QPQ-coated barrel, a lightened optics-ready slide with window cuts, and a 17+1 capacity from CZ 75 style double-stack magazines, at a price well under most name-brand duty pistols.
Military Armament Corp RA9 Defense S Overview
MAC is the Military Armament Corporation brand imported by SDS Arms, and its pistols are built in Turkey. The RA9 series is MAC’s modular striker pistol line: the serialized part is a stainless fire-control chassis, not the polymer grip, so grips and slides can be swapped as the system grows. Three versions launched in 2026: the standard RA-9 with a 4.25 inch barrel, this RA-9S (Defense S) with a 4.75 inch barrel and lightened slide, and the RA-9 Sport with an aluminum grip.
Barrel Length and a Title Correction
Our original store title listed this pistol with a 4.25 inch barrel, and one distributor lists the same figure. MAC’s launch information and the dealer listings that carry model 15000602 describe the Defense S with a 4.75 inch barrel and lightened slide, while the 4.25 inch barrel belongs to the standard RA-9 (15000601). We list it as the 4.75 inch model, but please check the box label at your FFL if barrel length matters to you. The longer barrel adds sight radius and a little velocity.
Lightened Slide and Optics Mounting
The slide has weight-saving window cuts on the top and sides plus front and rear cocking serrations. It is cut for a red dot and ships with an RMR adapter plate, so popular RMR-footprint optics bolt on directly; other footprints will need a different plate. A three-slot Picatinny rail on the dust cover takes a weapon light. Distributor listings disagree on the factory iron sights, describing them as either white dot or a fiber optic front, so expect to verify on arrival.
Monoblock Chassis and Trigger
Inside the polymer grip module sits the RA9 Monoblock, MAC’s serialized fire-control chassis. That is the legal firearm, which means grip modules can be replaced without a transfer, similar in concept to other modular pistols. The flat-faced trigger has a blade safety, and a red striker status indicator and a loaded chamber indicator let you check the pistol’s condition by sight and feel. Slide stops are ambidextrous for left-handed shooters.
Magazines and Capacity
The RA9 feeds from double-stack magazines in the CZ 75 pattern, and two 17 round magazines come in the box with a magwell, a loading tool and a cleaning kit. Using an established magazine pattern is a real advantage for a new pistol, because spare and extended magazines are easier to find than for a proprietary design. Still, test any aftermarket magazine thoroughly before trusting it for defense.
What to Know Before You Buy
The RA9 is a new design from an importer, so holster support is still limited compared with Glock, Smith and Wesson or Sig Sauer patterns, and long-term durability data is thin. Resale value will also trail the big brands. On the plus side, it offers features usually found on pricier pistols. Run a few hundred rounds of your chosen ammunition through it before carrying it, and stick to standard-pressure or plus-P loads only if MAC rates the pistol for them.
State Laws and Ownership
A 17 round magazine is not legal in every state. California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington, among others, limit capacity or restrict sales, and handgun roster states may not allow this model at all. Many states also require a purchase permit for any handgun. Confirm with your receiving FFL that this pistol and its magazines can be transferred to you.
