Description
The Meprolight RDS Pro V2 Red Bullseye is a full size 1x red dot sight built for rifles and carbines that see hard use. It pairs a red bullseye reticle with a large, clear window, a common AA battery and brightness settings for both daylight and night vision, all in a tough black aluminum housing.
Meprolight RDS Pro V2 Red Bullseye Overview
Meprolight catalogs this sight as part 56850016. The objective is 33 x 20mm, and the sight measures about 4.1 in long, 2.4 in high and 2.4 in wide, with a weight of about 10.6 oz. It mounts to a MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail, has unlimited eye relief and works behind magnifying scopes as well as on its own. Meprolight is an Israeli company known for military and law enforcement sights.
The Bullseye Reticle
The bullseye pattern surrounds a small center dot with a ring. The ring is quick to find when you bring the rifle up fast, and the center dot gives you a precise aiming point for longer shots. Our distributor lists the center dot at about 2.2 MOA, while Meprolight retail listings describe the RDS Pro V2 dot as about 2 MOA.
Brightness and Night Vision
The RDS Pro V2 has 16 brightness settings: 12 for daylight and 4 for use at night. Meprolight lists it as compatible with Gen II and Generation II NGS night vision devices, so it can work on a rifle used with night vision as well as in daylight.
AA Battery Power
A single 1.5V AA battery runs the sight. Meprolight says one battery lasts thousands of hours. AA batteries are easy to find anywhere, so you never have to hunt for a special coin cell before a hunt or a training class.
Adding a Magnifier
Meprolight designed the RDS Pro V2 to work with magnifying scopes. A 3x magnifier on a flip mount behind the sight lets you identify targets and make longer shots, then swing out of the way for fast close range work. Match the magnifier mount height to the sight so the optical centers line up.
Built for Duty
The aluminum body, protective shape and simple controls are meant for rifles that get carried, bumped and used in bad weather. Large buttons are easy to work with gloves, and the big window makes it easy to pick up the reticle even when you are moving or shooting from an awkward position.
Zeroing Tips
Most rifle and shotgun shooters zero a red dot at 50 or 100 yards, depending on the gun and how it will be used. Start at about 25 yards to get on paper, then move back and fine tune. Fire small groups before each change, and confirm zero with the ammunition you plan to use.
Battery Care
Replace the battery once a year on a defensive gun, even if the dot still looks fine, and keep a spare in your range bag. Wipe the lens with a soft cloth or lens pen, not a shirt tail, to keep the coatings clean. If the dot seems dim or flickers, check the battery and contacts first.
Ordering and Transfer
When you order a firearm from MAG5 Firearms, we ship it to the licensed dealer you choose. Your dealer completes the ATF Form 4473 and the background check, and may charge a transfer fee. Local buyers can complete the transfer at our shop. Bring a valid ID, and check your state waiting period before you plan a hunt or a range trip.
