Description
The Leupold VX-6HD 4-24×52 TMOA is item 183843, the Generation 2 scope built for shooters who hold rather than dial. Its sibling in the same body carries a FireDot Duplex. The reticle is the entire difference between them, and neither store title used to say so.
What the Leupold VX-6HD 4-24×52 TMOA reticle actually does
TMOA is a tree reticle marked in minutes of angle. Instead of counting clicks for a 400 yard shot, you read the holdover off the stadia and break the trigger. For wind you do the same thing horizontally, off the crossbars.
It is illuminated across eight settings from a CR2032, rated 1600 hours on low, 1000 on medium and 300 on high. Leupold does not publish a daylight-bright rating or night vision compatibility for this particular reticle, and we are not going to assume either one.
This is a second focal plane riflescope. That matters more with a tree reticle than with a duplex: the TMOA subtensions are only correct at one magnification. Learn which power your holds are calibrated for and leave the ring there when you are using them.
Optics and adjustment on the Leupold VX-6HD 4-24×52 TMOA
The 6:1 erector runs 4x to 24x behind a 52 mm objective on a 34mm main tube. Eye relief is 3.7 inches at the bottom and 3.8 at the top. Field of view is 28.1 feet at 4x, tightening to 4.8 feet at 24x, measured at 100 yards.
Elevation is a CDS-SZL2 locking dial with a revolution indicator and SpeedSet rezero. Windage is a zero-lock turret. Both move in 1/4 MOA clicks, with 100 MOA of total travel each way, which is 29 MIL.
Elevation runs 20 MOA per revolution with a 38 MOA dial travel limit, and windage is published at 20 MOA per revolution. Parallax is precision side focus, adjustable down to a 50 yard minimum.
Honest notes on the Leupold VX-6HD 4-24×52 TMOA
A tree reticle is a commitment. If you are not going to practise reading holds, it clutters the view for nothing and a plain duplex will serve you better. The FireDot Duplex version of this same scope exists for exactly that shooter.
This is also a heavy optic: 26.2 ounces and 14.5 inches long. On a lightweight hunting rifle that changes the balance noticeably. It belongs on a rifle built for shooting at distance from a supported position.
One published figure is worth flagging. The mechanically identical FireDot Duplex version lists 24 MOA of windage per revolution where this one lists 20, despite every other specification matching. One of the two is a manufacturer data error. We print each as published rather than quietly harmonising them.
No finish colour, lens coating list or light transmission figure appears on the manufacturer page for this model. Those numbers circulate widely on retail listings anyway. We do not print specifications that are not published.
Who this scope suits
Target shooters, long-range hunters and anyone who has learned to hold rather than dial under time pressure. The Leupold VX-6HD 4-24×52 TMOA gives you a calibrated grid, a locking elevation dial when you do want to spin it, and 100 MOA of range to play with.
Skip it if you want an uncluttered hunting picture, if you need first focal plane subtensions that stay true at every power, or if weight is a limiting factor on your build.
