Description
The Leupold VX-6HD 4-24×52 FireDot Duplex is item 183841, the hunting-reticle half of a pair of Generation 2 scopes that are otherwise mechanically identical. The other carries an illuminated TMOA tree. Everything else about the two is the same, and the old store titles said nothing about it.
Why the Leupold VX-6HD 4-24×52 FireDot Duplex keeps the view clean
A FireDot Duplex is a plain hunting crosshair with a glowing centre dot. There are no holdover stadia, no wind bars and nothing to read. You put the dot where the bullet should land, and the rest of the field of view stays empty.
That is a real advantage on game. A tree reticle asks you to interpret a grid under time pressure; a duplex asks you to aim. If you shoot at known distances or dial your elevation rather than holding, this is the version to buy.
Leupold publishes daylight bright illumination for this reticle across eight settings, and states it is not night vision compatible. Motion Sensor Technology cuts the dot after five minutes of stillness and restores it the instant the rifle moves.
Optics and adjustment on the Leupold VX-6HD 4-24×52 FireDot
Magnification runs 4x to 24x behind a 52 mm objective on a 34mm main tube. This is a second focal plane riflescope, so the duplex holds the same apparent thickness at every power instead of thinning out at the bottom of the range.
Eye relief is 3.7 inches at 4x and 3.8 at 24x. Field of view is 28.1 feet at the bottom and 4.8 feet at the top, measured at 100 yards. A single CR2032 runs the illumination for a published 1600 hours on low, 1000 on medium and 300 on high.
Elevation is a CDS-SZL2 locking dial with a revolution indicator and SpeedSet rezero; windage is a zero-lock turret. Clicks are 1/4 MOA, and total travel is 100 MOA, or 29 MIL, on both axes. Elevation gives 20 MOA per revolution with a 38 MOA dial travel limit.
Parallax is precision side focus with a 50 yard minimum. At 24x that side dial is not optional equipment; small parallax errors at the top of this magnification range will cost you a group.
Size and mounting
The scope weighs 26.2 ounces and measures 14.5 inches, with 6.2 inches of total mounting space split 2.1 inches front and 2.4 rear. The objective bell is 5.1 inches long and 2.4 inches across, so it wants tall rings and a receiver with room ahead of the turret housing.
Honest notes on the Leupold VX-6HD 4-24×52 FireDot Duplex
One published number does not add up. This model lists 24 MOA of windage per revolution, while the mechanically identical TMOA version lists 20, with every other specification matching across the two pages. One of them is a manufacturer data error. We print each as published rather than picking the tidier figure.
This is a heavy scope on a big tube. At 26.2 ounces plus 34mm rings, it changes the handling of a light mountain rifle considerably. It is built for shooting from a bipod or a bag, not for carrying up a ridge all day.
Leupold publishes no finish colour, no coating list and no light transmission percentage for this model. Retail listings quote all three anyway. We are not going to print specifications the manufacturer does not state.
Who this scope suits
Hunters who want a clean sight picture with a lit centre for low light, and shooters who dial elevation rather than holding it. The Leupold VX-6HD 4-24×52 FireDot Duplex gives you 100 MOA of travel and a locking turret to use it with.
Choose the TMOA version instead if you want a calibrated holdover grid. Skip both if you need first focal plane subtensions, night vision compatible illumination, or a lighter optic.
