Description
The Leupold Mark 5HD Tremor 3 FDE in 3.6-18×44 is item 185067, a first focal plane scope on a 35 mm tube in Flat Dark Earth. It is the compact half of a pair we stock with this reticle; the other is a 5-25×56.
What the Tremor 3 reticle asks of you
Tremor 3 is a dense grid reticle built for holding rather than dialling. Wind dots, ranging brackets and a full holdover tree let you engage at speed across distance without touching a turret, once you know the pattern.
It is also the most cluttered reticle we sell. If you do not intend to learn it properly, it will obscure your target and a simpler pattern will serve you better. Buy it because you want the grid, not because it looks capable.
The Leupold Mark 5HD Tremor 3 FDE is first focal plane, so every one of those references is true at every magnification. That is the only arrangement in which a grid reticle makes sense.
The compact one of the pair
At 12.1 inches and 26 ounces this is meaningfully smaller than the 5-25×56 version, which runs 15.7 inches and 30 ounces. Magnification tops out at 18x behind a 44 mm objective rather than 25x behind a 56.
Field of view is 28.3 feet at 3.6x and 5.8 feet at 18x, per 100 yards, against 20.4 and 4.2 on the bigger scope. The lower bottom end and wider picture make this the better choice for anything that moves.
Elevation travel is 29 MIL here against 35 MIL on the 5-25×56, so the bigger scope reaches further before you run out of dial. Both take 35 mm rings.
Turrets, travel and parallax
Elevation is the M5C3: locking, with a revolution indicator and a set screw rezero. Windage is capped, so it will not walk in a drag bag. Clicks are 0.1 MIL on both axes, matching the reticle.
Total elevation travel is 29 MIL, or 100 MOA, at 10.5 MIL per revolution with a 30 MIL dial travel limit. Windage gives 23 MIL, or 80 MOA, at 10 MIL per turn.
Parallax is published with a 50 yard minimum. Note that this page carries no adjustable parallax row and no precision side focus row, though its 5-25×56 sibling publishes side focus explicitly. We are telling you what is and is not published rather than asserting a feature the spec sheet omits.
Glass and dimensions
Magnification runs 3.6x to 18x behind the 44 mm objective. Eye relief is 3.5 inches at the bottom and 3.8 at the top. The scope measures 12.1 inches with 5.9 inches of mounting space, split 1.7 front and 2 rear, on a 2.9 inch objective section.
There is no illumination and no battery. With a grid reticle that is worth thinking about: Tremor 3 has a lot of fine detail, and in poor light at 3.6x it takes some finding.
Honest notes on the Leupold Mark 5HD Tremor 3 FDE
Flat Dark Earth is the finish, and it appears only in the manufacturer model name and its image filenames. There is no finish specification row on the product page, so we are stating the colour on the authority of the model name rather than as a published figure.
The 35 mm main tube is the budget item nobody warns you about. It is not 30 mm and not 34. Rings and one-piece mounts exist but the market is narrower and prices are higher. Price the mount alongside the scope.
Leupold does not name Horus anywhere on this product page, so we are not going to either. No coating list or light transmission figure is published; we print neither.
Who this scope suits
Shooters who hold rather than dial, practical and field competitors, and anyone building a light precision rifle in FDE. The Leupold Mark 5HD Tremor 3 FDE is 100 percent waterproof and fogproof, designed, machined and assembled in the USA and guaranteed to perform for life.
Skip it if you have not learned the Tremor grid, if you need illumination, or if you want the reach of the 5-25×56 version.
