Description
The Leupold DeltaPoint Pro FDE is the flat dark earth version of Leupold open reflex sight, with a 6 MOA dot, an aluminium housing under a steel sheath and a battery compartment that opens without disturbing your zero. It is the same optic as the black model in a different finish. Mag5 Firearms ships optics direct with no FFL transfer.
A Leupold DeltaPoint Pro FDE Discrepancy Worth Knowing
Worth reading before you order. Leupold product page for item 181106 is titled DeltaPoint Pro 6 MOA FDE and the body text describes a large 6 MOA red dot, but the specification table on that same page lists the reticle as a 2.5 MOA dot. We checked it twice. The black version of this sight, item 181105, correctly lists 6 MOA in its table.
We have listed the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro FDE as 6 MOA, which is what the product name, the description and the identical black sibling all say, and we are telling you about the contradicting row rather than pretending it is not there. If dot size is the deciding factor for you, call us and we will confirm it with Leupold before you buy.
We flag this sort of thing rather than quietly copy whichever number suits us because a spec sheet is only worth something if you can trust every row on it. The rest of the figures below are consistent across Leupold page and match the black sibling exactly.
Why the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro FDE Uses a Large Dot
Six minutes of angle covers six inches at 100 yards, which sounds coarse on paper and is exactly right for the job this sight does. Close range, under stress, the problem is finding the dot at all, and a bigger dot is found faster. For deliberate shooting at distance a smaller dot is the better answer and Leupold make those.
The honest limit: at fifty yards a 6 MOA dot covers three inches, which is most of a steel plate. The Leupold DeltaPoint Pro FDE is not the sight for shooting pistol groups at distance.
Leupold DeltaPoint Pro FDE Battery Access
The battery compartment opens from the top, so a CR2032 change does not mean unmounting the sight and re-zeroing afterwards. On a lot of open reflex designs the battery sits underneath and every change costs you a trip to the range. This is the feature that separates the DeltaPoint Pro from cheaper sights.
Life is roughly 1600 hours on low, 1000 on medium and 300 on high across eight daylight bright settings. Motion Sensor Technology switches the dot off after five minutes without movement and brings it back the instant the gun moves.
Eight brightness settings is enough range that the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro FDE works indoors without blooming and outdoors in full sun without disappearing. Daylight bright at the top is the setting that matters on an open reflex sight, because a washed out dot on a bright range is no dot at all.
Leupold DeltaPoint Pro FDE Build and Adjustment
Leupold describe the housing as a rugged aluminium body inside a steel sheath. The aluminium keeps the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro FDE at two ounces, the steel takes the knocks. The unit is 1.8 inches long and rated waterproof, fogproof and shockproof. Adjustment is coin click at 1 MOA per click with 60 MOA of travel in elevation and windage.
A full MOA per click is coarse by rifle standards and correct on a pistol: you zero once and the heavier detent resists walking under slide recoil. This is an open emitter design, so lint and rain can reach the LED. For a range or duty gun that gets wiped down it is a non issue; for daily concealed carry in bad weather an enclosed sight is the safer choice.
Leupold do not publish a window size or a named mounting footprint for the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro FDE, only that it suits an AR, a shotgun or a pistol. We have not invented either figure. Call us with your slide cut and we will confirm fitment before you order.
