Why the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro 6 MOA Uses a Large Dot

Six minutes of angle covers six inches at 100 yards. On paper that sounds coarse. In the situation this sight is built for, close range and under stress, it is the right answer: a bigger dot is found faster, and finding the dot is the whole problem with a reflex sight on a handgun.

If you shoot the same gun at distance or in competition, Leupold make the DeltaPoint Pro in smaller dot sizes and those are the better choice. The Leupold DeltaPoint Pro 6 MOA is for defensive and close range work, and we would rather point you at the right dot size than sell you the wrong one.

There is an honest limit to a large dot worth stating. At fifty yards a 6 MOA dot covers three inches of target, which is most of a steel plate. The Leupold DeltaPoint Pro 6 MOA is not the sight to buy if you want to shoot groups with a pistol at distance; it is the sight to buy if what matters is finding the dot in a hurry.

Leupold DeltaPoint Pro 6 MOA Battery Access

This is the feature that separates the DeltaPoint Pro from cheaper reflex sights. The battery compartment opens from the top, so you replace a CR2032 without unmounting the sight. On a lot of open reflex designs the battery sits underneath, which means taking the optic off the gun and re-zeroing afterwards.

Battery life is roughly 1600 hours on low, 1000 on medium and 300 on high across eight brightness settings, all daylight bright at the top end. Motion Sensor Technology deactivates the dot after five minutes without movement and brings it back instantly when the gun moves.

Leupold describe the housing as a rugged aluminium body inside a steel sheath. That combination is the reason this sight survives on a slide: aluminium keeps the weight at two ounces, the steel takes the knocks. The whole unit is 1.8 inches long and rated waterproof, fogproof and shockproof.

Adjustment is coin click at 1 MOA per click with 60 MOA of travel in both elevation and windage. A full MOA per click is coarse by rifle standards and correct here: you zero a pistol sight once and the heavier detent is less likely to walk under slide recoil.

This is an open emitter design, not an enclosed one. The LED sits in an open channel, so lint, rain and holster grit can reach it. For a range or duty gun that gets wiped down it is a non issue; for daily concealed carry in bad weather, an enclosed sight is the safer choice and we stock those too.
