Description

The Kimber KDS9c Rail 9mm is Kimber double stack 1911 style pistol in the version most people actually want, with an accessory rail moulded into the dust cover, an optics cut in the slide and TruGlo night sights already fitted. It is a carry and duty configuration rather than a range toy.
Kimber KDS9c Rail 9mm Barrel, Slide and Frame
The barrel is 4.09 inches, which is the length Kimber settled on to keep the pistol concealable while retaining a full length dust cover and rail. The slide carries both front and rear serrations, which matters when you are press checking a pistol with a red dot mounted on the back of it.
The frame and slide are stainless steel finished in KimPro, Kimber own proprietary coating, in a grey and black two tone. KimPro is worth understanding. It is harder than most firearms finishes, it is self lubricating, and it stands up to sweat and holster wear better than a standard nitride.
Optics, Sights and Grips
The slide is cut for a red dot from the factory rather than milled after the fact, which is both more accurate and considerably cheaper than sending a slide out to a machinist. TruGlo three dot night sights sit underneath, with tritium inserts that glow without any charging and work through the optic window.
The grips are G10, a resin bonded fibreglass laminate that is dimensionally stable, unaffected by solvent or moisture and aggressive enough to hold under recoil without shredding a cover garment. Kimber pairs them with an ambidextrous thumb safety in the traditional 1911 arrangement.

Why a Double Stack 1911 in a Carry Size
The 1911 trigger is the reason people put up with the platform. It is a short, crisp single action press that almost nothing else matches, and for a long time the trade was a single stack magazine holding eight or nine rounds.
Double stack 1911s changed that, and a compact double stack changed it again. You get the trigger, an optic, a rail and a modern grip in a pistol sized to carry, which is a combination that simply did not exist a decade ago.
Why Buyers Choose the Kimber KDS9c Rail 9mm
The rail is the practical differentiator. A weapon light on a home defence or duty pistol is not optional in most people judgement, and many double stack 1911s in this size do not have anywhere to put one.
The finish and the sights are the other reason. KimPro and tritium night sights are both things buyers add later on cheaper pistols, and having them from the factory means the gun is ready as it comes.
Who Should Buy It
The Kimber KDS9c Rail 9mm suits concealed carriers who want a 1911 trigger with modern capacity, shooters mounting a red dot on a carry pistol, and anyone who wants a light on a metal framed compact. It is a steel pistol, so a proper gun belt is not a suggestion.
