Description
The Howa M1500 Hogue 270 Winchester pairs one of the best-built factory barreled actions in the business with a pillar-bedded Hogue OverMolded stock in green. A cold hammer forged 22-inch barrel, a HACT two-stage trigger and a three-position safety come as standard.
The Barreled Action Is the Point
Howa has built barreled actions for decades, including for other companies who put their own name on them. The M1500 receiver and bolt are forged steel, machined to tolerances that account for the rifle’s long-standing reputation for accuracy well above its price. The Howa M1500 Hogue 270 Winchester is that action in its most practical dress: a synthetic stock, a cold hammer forged barrel and nothing you do not need.
Cold Hammer Forged Barrel
Cold hammer forging work-hardens the bore as it forms the rifling, producing a barrel with a longer service life and a more consistent internal finish than button or cut rifling. It is an expensive process usually reserved for higher-priced rifles. At 22 inches the barrel gives .270 Winchester enough length to reach its designed velocity while keeping the rifle manageable in a blind or on a walk.
HACT Two-Stage Trigger
The Howa Actuator Controlled Trigger is a genuine two-stage unit, with a light, consistent first stage and a clean break at the wall. Two-stage triggers are rare at this price and are what precision shooters generally prefer, because the first stage lets you take up slack while settling the crosshairs.
Three-Position Safety
The safety has three positions: fire, safe with the bolt free, and safe with the bolt locked. That middle position lets you unload safely with the trigger blocked, which is the arrangement serious hunting rifles use and cheaper rifles usually omit.
Hogue Pillar Bedded OverMolded Stock
The stock is Hogue’s OverMolded design, with rubber bonded permanently over a rigid internal skeleton and aluminium pillars at the action screws. Pillars stop the stock compressing as screws are torqued, which is the usual reason a synthetic-stocked rifle loses its zero. Rubber gives a secure hold in wet or cold conditions, and the green finish is a practical alternative to black in the field.
Why .270 Winchester
The .270 has been a benchmark North American hunting cartridge since 1925. It shoots flat, recoils moderately, and puts deer, antelope and elk down cleanly at any sensible range. Ammunition is available in every sporting goods store in the country, and the Howa M1500 Hogue 270 Winchester holds four in the magazine plus one chambered.

Who Should Buy It
This is a hunting rifle for someone who cares more about how it shoots than what the label says. Deer, antelope, elk and black bear are all well within what a .270 handles, and the two-stage trigger makes precision easier than most rifles at twice the price.
The Howa M1500 Hogue 270 Winchester ships without sights or a scope, so budget for glass and rings. A synthetic stock is also less attractive than walnut if appearance matters to you, and it is a full-size hunting rifle rather than an ultralight mountain gun.
Hunters counting ounces should compare a lightweight carbon-stocked rifle, and anyone wanting a scoped package out of the box should look at a combo rifle in our catalog. Every firearm we list ships to your chosen FFL and is transferred in accordance with federal and state law.
