Titanium Is The Whole Reason This Costs More

Almost every pistol optic other than the Holosun HE509T X2 Red Dot, including most of Holosun own line, is 7075 aluminum. It is light, it machines well and it is perfectly adequate. Titanium is a different proposition.

For the same weight titanium is substantially stronger and far more resistant to corrosion, which is why it turns up in aerospace and in surgical hardware rather than in things that need to be cheap. On a carry gun the corrosion point is the one that matters day to day: a sight that lives against a sweaty body inside a holster is in a mildly hostile environment every hour it is worn. The Holosun HE509T X2 Red Dot is built for guns that get carried rather than guns that get cased.

Enclosed, And Why That Matters On A Carry Gun

An open reflex sight, unlike the Holosun HE509T X2 Red Dot, fires its emitter upward from an exposed shelf at a lens. It works until something lands on that emitter, and a carry gun spends its life collecting exactly the things that do: holster lint, sweat, sunscreen, gun oil, rain running down inside a jacket.

The Holosun HE509T X2 Red Dot has no exposed emitter. The assembly is sealed inside the housing with glass at both ends, so there is nothing for debris to land on and nothing to wipe before you can trust the dot. Combine a sealed emitter with a titanium housing and you have a sight designed around the assumption that it will be carried hard and maintained rarely, which is an honest description of most defensive pistols.

A Tall Window In A Small Package

The glass on the Holosun HE509T X2 Red Dot measures 0.66 by 0.9 inches, which is taller than it is wide. That is the right orientation for a pistol optic, because a handgun is presented rather than shouldered and the reticle is usually lost vertically when the gun does not arrive level.

Vertical window on the Holosun HE509T X2 Red Dot buys that back, and the 32 MOA circle around the dot does the rest. The ring is far easier for the eye to catch than the dot while your presentation is still forming; once the draw is grooved you can drop to the bare 2 MOA dot. Both come from the same emitter, so switching never needs a re-zero.

Solar, Shake Awake And Both Brightness Modes

A solar panel on the Holosun HE509T X2 Red Dot harvests ambient light and will keep the Holosun HE509T X2 Red Dot running if the CR1632 dies or is removed entirely. The cell is rated 50,000 hours at brightness setting six, and Shake Awake sleeps the sight whenever the pistol is still, so that number describes far more calendar time than continuous running would.

Brightness runs automatically or manually, your choice, with memory to restore your last setting and lockout to stop a holster changing it. Automatic is the sensible default on a defensive gun where you will not have time to adjust; manual is there for when the scene lies to the sensor, which snow, a white wall or a headlight will all do. Eight daylight settings and four night vision settings.

The 509T Footprint

The Holosun HE509T X2 Red Dot uses Holosun own 509T footprint rather than the RMR pattern. That is worth knowing before you order, because it is not interchangeable with an RMR cut without a plate.
