Holosun HE509T X2 Gold Enclosed Emitter
The emitter on the Holosun HE509T X2 Gold fires across a fully sealed tube rather than sitting exposed in an open channel. Rain, snow, lint and holster grit cannot settle on the LED and blank out the reticle. For a pistol that is carried against a body every day, that single design choice matters more than any figure on a spec sheet.
The housing is 7075 T6 titanium with a black finish. Titanium resists galling around the mounting screws in a way aluminium does not, which shows up on a gun whose optic comes off and goes back on repeatedly. Despite the enclosed housing the whole sight weighs only 1.27 ounces, lighter than most aluminium optics in its class.
Why the Holosun HE509T X2 Gold Runs a Gold Reticle
Gold sits between red and green in the spectrum, and shooters who try it tend to describe it as easier on the eye than green and easier to find than red. It separates cleanly from brown and grey backgrounds and from the amber of indoor range lighting. If you have never looked through a gold reticle, it is worth handling one before assuming red is the default.
Worth flagging honestly: Holosun own product page for the Holosun HE509T X2 Gold lists a 650 nanometre wavelength in its specification table, which is the figure for the red version and is plainly a carry over. We have left the wavelength out of the table below rather than publish a number we know to be wrong for this model.
Holosun HE509T X2 Gold Multi Reticle
You get three sight pictures from one optic: a 2 MOA dot alone for precision, a 32 MOA circle alone, or the circle and dot together for a fast close range pickup. Switching takes a couple of button presses. The window measures 0.66 by 0.9 inches and adjustment is 1 MOA per click with 30 MOA of travel in each direction.
That 30 MOA of travel is the one spec where the 509T gives ground to the 508T, which offers 50. On a slide mounted pistol optic 30 MOA is more than enough, but if you are mounting to a rifle or a shotgun with a taller rail, it is the number to check first.
The store listing for this item has been carrying the words red dot alongside gold dot, which is a data error rather than a variant. Barcode 810047074618 is the gold emitter version of the 509T, and that is what ships. We have corrected the title so nobody orders the wrong colour.
Footprint and Mounting
The Holosun HE509T X2 Gold uses Holosun proprietary 509T footprint, and an RMR to 509T adapter plate ships in the box. That plate is what removes the usual objection to this sight: if your slide is cut for an RMR, which most optics ready pistols are, you can mount it without buying anything extra. Check the plate fits your slide cut before you order if you are unsure.
Power and Durability
The Holosun HE509T X2 Gold carries a solar panel on the hood that runs the reticle in good light and keeps the sight working if the battery dies. The battery is a CR1632 rated at 50,000 hours on setting 6, with twelve brightness levels, eight for daylight and four for night vision. Shake Awake sleeps the optic when the pistol sits still and wakes it the moment it moves.
The Holosun HE509T X2 Gold is rated IPX8 for water immersion and tested to 5000G of shock. Dimensions are 1.6 by 1.16 by 1.13 inches. There is a brightness memory that holds your last setting and a button lockout so nothing gets nudged inside a holster or a safe.
