HK416 22LR Rifle 10 Round Overview

HK specifies aluminum upper and lower receivers, a 16.1-inch barrel threaded 1/2×28, a rail interface system with M-LOK slots and a Mil-Std 1913 top rail, a retractable stock, a pistol grip with a storage compartment, adjustable flip-up sights, a 90-degree manual safety, a functional dust cover and a last-round bolt hold-open. HK lists the weight at about 5.7 pounds without a magazine, a height of 10.8 inches and a width of 2.6 inches.

Who Makes the Rimfire HK416

HK licenses its rimfire replicas to Carl Walther in Germany, which builds them as straight-blowback 22 LR rifles. They copy the look, controls and handling of the military rifle, but internally they are simple rimfire semi-autos, so the parts and magazines are specific to the 22 LR model.

The 10-Round Package

This version ships with a short 10-round magazine, which makes prone and bench shooting easier and keeps the rifle legal in states that cap magazines at 10. HK also sells 20- and 30-round magazines where they are allowed. The rail system has room for a red dot, a light and a vertical grip, so the rimfire can mirror the setup on a centerfire AR for low-cost practice.

Rail and Furniture

The aluminum receivers give the rifle a solid, AR-like feel rather than the toy feel of some rimfire replicas. The retractable stock adjusts length of pull for smaller shooters, which is one reason it works well as a family rifle. The flip-up sights fold away for a red dot, and the storage compartment in the grip holds spare batteries for an optic.

Ammunition and Reliability

22 LR remains the least expensive way to practice rifle handling skills, though prices vary with lots and brands. Blowback rimfires like this one generally run best with high-velocity 36- to 40-grain round-nose loads; bulk subsonic and standard-velocity ammunition may not cycle reliably, and dirty, waxy rounds build fouling in the chamber. Rimfire primers also produce the occasional dud, which is a normal part of shooting 22 LR.

Honest Caveats

The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28, but a suppressor is an NFA item that requires an approved ATF Form 4 and must be legal where you live. Magazines are specific to the rimfire HK416 and cost more than common rimfire magazines. This is a licensed replica, not an HK-built rifle, so it shares no major parts with a centerfire G36 or HK416, and resale reflects its rimfire role.

State Laws and Ownership

Pennsylvania does not require a permit to buy or own this rifle, and buyers 18 and older can purchase it through a dealer. Other states are stricter: some cap magazine capacity, some regulate features such as pistol grips, adjustable stocks, flash hiders or threaded barrels, and a few restrict how a long gun may be transported. The 10-round magazine is compliant in most capacity-limited states, but some states still regulate telescoping stocks, pistol grips or threaded barrels on semi-automatic rifles, including rimfires.

Check your state and local rules before ordering, and ask your receiving dealer about any restrictions where you live.
